I have not yet returned home from a rtw trip, but I received notice that cap1 sent me 2 raffles cat C suite certs (I had ordered 2 sets early in the game but only received 2 cat D certs instead of 4 cat c suite certs). Now I'm thinking about keeping the 4 certs I have - 2 cat d nights and 2 cat c suite nights.

As well, the link you posted is for US AIR not UA. I know US is doing a buy miles get 100% bonus now but still, it may not nec. be worth spending THAT hope some of this helped.

:)MM

thanks .. new at this, been a week. =P after consolidating 4 cap1 cards = 400K, you could possibly trade it 1:1 by this glitch. okay, I haven't verified this glitch ...

here is the trick, must follow in exact steps
1- login to your cap one account, and select explore rewards
2- go to redeem up top, and select redeem for previously purchased travel
3- select the travel from 90 days you want to redeem against
4- give it a day or so to credit
5- rinse and repeat until you deplete your points against the same travel
6- if you have a $0 balance to start with, and end up having a credit balance thereafter, just call cap one and tell them to issue you a check for the balance (since they owe you money at that point). or just use the card for whatever until you are back to owing them a few dollars
bam bam bam. thankz cap0nez. this trick has worked for at least a week, so be nimble and be quick in case they change their minds

read somewhere. forgot.

=)

Any chance to redeem Cap 1 points for the purchase of a W Hotel bed?

UA Fan Jun 14, 2011 12:28 pm

One of my purchases is categorized as Other Travel, however one cannot select it for redemption online. Is there a way to do it without having to call Cap 1?

No, AFAIK! I've called C1 several times for 'other travel' redemption & CS has always been helpful & efficient in doing so!^ Is there a reason why you can't call?

Its actually something my step-dad put on his card. Plus I hate having to call anyone. Love doing everything online.

Well, in this case unfortunately, there is no way around calling -- the redemption for 'other travel' appears to be a courtesy thing, hence not available on-line.

As these points give a constant rate of redemption (for travel related expenses) the best use has got to be any travel related expense to which points/miles could not be applied.

I'd go for cheap flights - the ones that you pay for b/c it's not worth dropping actual FF miles on. For example, my $215 r/t to New Orleans this summer - too cheap to spend miles on, but if I had these points, I'd redeem it in a heartbeat.

Wanting to get a DSLR Camera

I was hoping that I could score a sweet camera out of this deal. I'm still sitting on 230,000 points and I'm just trying to figure out how to do it. I have asked other people who travel for work if I could pay for their stuff and then get reimbursed by their employer, but what a hassle. Any other ideas?

Thanks,

Sheldon

Well one way would be to simply buy a camera worth no more than $1,150 total and when your bill shows the purchase, just use your 230,000 points to pay for its line item:

You would need to take the cost of the item, add two zeros on the end and then double that.

If you are able to find a way to write this camera off for something related to your work, you get that too later in life!

Another way could be to try to suggest to capital one that the camera purchase is travel related because you use it for travel or some business venture involving same. If they agree, you would do this over the phone when trying to pay for it with points and you could now be able to use only 115,000 points to pay for it, leaving the rest of that same amount left over for something else.

Then you could transfer your points to someone in here who could get you sweet cameras for huge discounts--maybe they have deals, work at stores, etc... you would PM them if they exist. ;)

You could buy gift cards that may count as travel, or see if some of the airline shopping portal websites have deals and may post as travel.

When something posts as travel or can later be called in about to customer service and argued to BE travel related, it costs less points. Or rather, everything else costs double. So if you can find a way to get this camera as a travel item, you win.

You could find someone who may or may not have cap one card... book THEM their flight for $2000, use your points to pay it back, and then they owe you one sweet camera with THEIR CC. They could even earn miles buying it for you. Everyone wins.

If they sell it at Target, Best Buy or Walmart you could just pay for it with gift cards.

missing gift cards

So I ordered a few amazon.com gift cards a few weeks back. All but one arrived 4 days after I ordered it. I am still missing one $100 card.

Should I call them now? Or should I wait?

I ordered the card on May 29th.

What are the odds that they will replace it.

Should I call them now? Or should I wait? Did the others come individually or together? Did you get one shipping confirmation or several? If they were all supposed to be shipped together, I'd say call immediately.

I ordered the card on May 29th. Actually, since the others came within four days, I say call immediately.

What are the odds that they will replace it. Based on the overall experience expressed here on dealings with CapOne, I'd say the odds are greatly in your favor.

Thanks...

I will call them! For each card (same batch of order), I get individual confirmation number, and they all come in seperate envelopes. It was simply odd when all my other GCs came (one in each envelop, quite wasteful, really) and yet the lone missing one is still MIA.
