Question about shopping online for points
I see that all the major rewards programs have online retail portals where you can earn miles per dollar spent.
Here's my question:
If I were to purchase a laptop from Staples through the gateway and then subsequently return it in the store, would the miles be reversed or is the mile reward based solely on the purchase transaction?

In my experience, the online mileage programs keep the miles pending for 6-8 weeks after the transaction. I suspect that it's to prevent someone from doing just this.
However, there have been a couple of threads here over the years with regard earning miles for purchase, then returning the items.
I refunded my purchase and still got miles - here is how!
