2) I used about 800K of my miles to fly four of my wife's relatives from Bejing to visit my FIL's grave and spend a week in Orlando (where we live). I flew them in first class on AA (which was really nice since they are all very very old).

I simply cannot imagine a better use of miles than these two events.
This is a very caring act of you and you must love your wife very much. ^

*Best perceived value*

100k each for F on BA (before fuel surcharges were imposed) from CDG->LHR->CPT, then MRU->LHR->CDG using AA miles.

We found the rate of 50k miles for one way in F from anywhere Europe to Africa to be quite the gem, especially direct from Northern Europe to Southern Africa!

The Concord Lounge in LHR was quite nice and we added some layover time just to enjoy the private 'hotel' room and amenities.

*Favorite usage*

A friend decided to drop his professional job and hitchhike from Louisiana to Alaska to fish or find his next pursuit. He stayed with us in San Francisco and we realized that his hitching would get complicated upon arrival at the Canadian border due to a DUI he earned years ago. We surprised him with an award flight to arrive in Alaska in time for fishing season. Just received a message yesterday that he is shipping 10lbs of fresh Halibut and Salmon to us for our generosity.

His ticket only cost 12,500 miles, but those miles went a long way!

I paid 99.00 for the WN Visa card and 50,000 points. I purchased 4 RT tix BWI-BUF and have some left over(my son goes to school in Baltimore). It might not be the most efficient use of points, but it was what I needed.

Smile First Class Cathay Pacific Calif to Thailand!

Two Holiday trips two years in a row roundtrip SanDiego-HongKong-Bangkok in First Class on Cathay Pacific for 125,000 miles each. They were older American Miles and those flight were the best of my life. Enjoyed the special featured Teas, Krug champaign, and cavier through out the trips.
Could not believe how great I felt on Arrival after such a distance of travel.
The stopover 1st class Lounge & Spa in HongKong was a real refreshing treat, as well as, the made to order breakfasts, teas & coffees !

I am still have the FOUR pairs of Designer Label Flight Lounge pajama sets to wear to bed on cooler nights to remind me of the wonderful flights! The Duvets made for a most restful sleep before flatbed seats!

I am wondering if it is time for a repeat?
