Various Netflix bonuses [merged thread]

This just showed up on AA's Facebook feed:

https://aa.netflix.com/offer.jsp?src=nflxaaFBSE0111

Don't know how many people don't already have Netflix, but if you don't, certainly a good return for a 1-month subscription.

Or, if you already have netflix, use a new credit card and a new address. :D

Decided to give this a go with a different card and address from what I usually use. Hopefully it pans out.

+2 I can't imagine howd they be able to know if you've had an account before if you use new CC and address.

spankytoes Mar 2, 2011 12:00 pm

I got a message saying that the AAdvantage # I entered has already been used for a Netflix subscription signup. Didn't have an option to enter in a different credit card or address.

Not sure what the deal is if you used it for another airline.

My only concern is somehow something gets weird since I *just* changed the billing address for the card I used to a family member's address and then signed up. But then again I am a bit more paranoid then the average person.

It looks like Netflix processed it so I should be good to go.

Used a different address/CC/e-mail then the account I already had. 2,500 miles here I come!

Tailgater Mar 2, 2011 12:27 pm

I signed up through CO--received 2k because I used CO branded card. And, I plan on keeping Netflix because, for me, it's well worth the monthly fee for the entertainment. Blockbuster, once the leader, is now barely afloat.

Hmm once my CO branded card hits maybe I can try that with yet another address... hmmmmm ;)

I agree, Netflix is well worth it, I'm just annoyed I signed up before I knew any better with waiting and using it to get more miles as a sign up bonus!

Some possibilities:

Tracking cookie
Same phone #
Same email address
Same AAdvantage account #

Or some combo of the above.

Fortunately you don't have to give them a phone number, they ask for it but it's not a required field.

I've been able to get bonuses for US and AA last year. My addresses and CC were different of course.

Got the same message about already getting a Netflix bonus for my AAdvantage account.

sundayrundown Mar 3, 2011 11:04 am

Just got the deal. Anyone knows how fast miles post in previous deals?

abcx Mar 3, 2011 11:25 am

Is this the best Netflix offer out there right now?

iluvthsgam Mar 3, 2011 11:31 am

Reading through the T & C's it looks like Netflix tracks it by AA #. So they will only award bonus miles once to each AA #.

How easy does AA combine accounts if you have separate AA numbers? (do you see where I am going with this?)

bez7 Mar 3, 2011 3:37 pm

Does Netflix track household by the last name and address? Annoying since we've had several different family members living in the same house at different times...

linsj Mar 3, 2011 4:18 pm

Has anyone seen an expiration date on this offer? I'm not a Facebook member, so I can't ask about it there.

pgary Mar 3, 2011 6:03 pm

Netflix offers miles for many airlines. You can see them on my website below in the Buying Stuff > Other Shopping Loyalty Programs section.

jnk Mar 3, 2011 6:07 pm

If you click the link it takes you directly to the offer, you don't have to go through facebook.

I know, but I googled the offer to find an expiration date. Didn't find one but saw a wall discussion about it on AA's Facebook page. However, I can't ask my question there.

I signed up for NetFlix about 5 years ago and got some bonus miles. Just went through the first page and didn't get that error message. I guess I may give it a go again just to see if it works! Anyone else tried that got a bonus a long time ago?

Edit: went through the whole thing and it had my old apartment address from 5 years ago - but that was right about the same time i bought my house. I think i did a double dip back then with both addresses, but it let me sign up again. We'll see... maybe i'll get some use out of streaming on my iPhone on the train. For $8 if I don't get the miles it's worth the test to see if i can watch movies easily while commuting now.

Edit again: After rereading the terms on the main aa.netflix page, pretty sure I am disqualified. Says doesn't work with anyone that has had an account before and of course I managed to accidentally use the same email address that I did 5 years ago... DOH!

I have had accounts combined before because a citi card gave me a new one. Good idea you have going here.... How many accounts would AA let you create in your same name at the same address and get netflix bonuses to that they'd let you combine though? :) But hey, if you can do it a few times, go for it lol.

NICE find! Thanks

Can you sign up and cancel the next day or is this not considered safe to ensure you get the miles?

For some promotions, that will work, but it's safest to wait until they post. Given that the first rebill doesn't occur for a month, why not wait up to three or four weeks to see if they post, and when they do, cancel then?

A5Globetrotter Mar 7, 2011 10:58 am

Ok, will do. In general is it safe to say that once miles are posted though, that you're good (i.e, that they won't be taking them back)? For instance, my 75k miles posted for the Citi AA card - am I safe to cancel now?

It is possible to retract miles (unless, of course, you've spent them first!), but it's not too common. In the case of the credit card, you're safe, as they post only after you've met the terms of the promotion, so they've have no right to retract them. Same with this Netflix promotion. The fine print doesn't require membership for a minimum period, so once they post, they're yours to keep.

Does this work out to 0.003196 CPM? Assuming you sign up for download only (7.99$)

If that is the case, then it may be the cheapest deal yet? Use virtual credit card number, and sign up several times. For example, sign up 10 times, will cost about $79.99 and you get 25,000 AA miles

Any holes in the approach above? Problems, Issues that will come up if attempting to do multiple registration with virtual credit card numbers?

You will probably need a different address for all of those virtual cards since they do ask for your billing address. In the T&Cs there is something about only one offer per address.

oregonocean Mar 8, 2011 9:13 am

quick turnaround. signed up on 3.2, points credited 3.8, thanks for the heads up!

YMMV I think the problem will be to get multiple bonuses into same FF account.

I had signed up for myself for a subscription that I still have, and then signed up for a new account as a gift for a family member. I used a different mailing address (the family member's I gave this to), my name on account, and my FF number, and a different cc. I did not get the second bonus. I assume this was because I was trying to credit the same FF account that had received a bonus a few months prior.

Just checked my account and noticed the same!

Wow that was quick.

Now time to cancel the Netflix account.

As I said above, the Netflix T&C says they will only post 1 bonus per AA account. Do they enforce this? Who knows. I have a feeling even if you switch up cc's and addresses and email addresses, they will look at the AA #'s that the bonuses are posting to.

Can you create 10 different AA accounts and then combine them? Maybe, haven't tried.

Why the rush? Enjoy the free downloads for a few weeks, as they won't rebill for a month from your initial charge.

If you deemed the hassle worth it, I'm sure you could get away with a couple or maybe three accounts, but AA would likely take issue if you pushed too far. Getting the bonus for multiple family members might be easier (just be sure to use different addresses, emails, credit cards, etc.)

I already have my main account for that, this one was purely set up for the miles so I figure I should cancel now before I forget and get billed for another month. :)

None, assuming you have 10 different addresses to use...

TTBHG Mar 8, 2011 5:58 pm

It keeps giving me a 30 day trial. Is that the same as all the rest of you? I went through the original link and entered my AA number but then no mention of anything the rest of the way.

sundayrundown Mar 9, 2011 11:24 am

That was fast. My miles posted 1 week of signing up. Thank you thank you thank you Flyertalk!!!!
