No need to convince AA of anything. It's between you and the IRS, and you can easily get a more reasonable valuation.
Though to me, no amount of miles is worth patronizing Facebook.
From what I understand, it's not that easy to get a "re-valuation" from the IRS. I've never had that problem with them, but I've had other similar problems (like a coding mistake on an investment income statement), and my experience is that the IRS behaves just like you would expect a bureauracy to behave. In other words, they do what the computer tells them to do -- unless and until you find intelligent life to override that default option. Besides, as a flyertalker, your estimate of what an airline mile "is worth" is likely to be significantly less than what the IRS would believe (even if they thought carefully about it). Bottom-line is that the folks who get 1099s are going to be a lot less lucky than they think they were!
As far as "patronizing" Facebook goes, if you like to participate in "deals" (like this one), you need some kind of Facebook account. Facebook promos are currently hot in corporate America. I have zero interest in having a real Facebook account, but for over a year I've had a "fake" one. I used a dummy email account to open it up, and I even gave them a fake name when I registered. An easy problem solved. It's hard for me to believe that people would use a "real" Facebook account for promos like this, but I guess many people don't think too much about it.
For those of you not seeing anything - you'll need to disable https in your account settings first. I just disabled, got the points, and then re-enabled.
On the AAdvantage Facebook page you can win 100-100,000 AAdvantage miles. You are guaranteed 100, but you could win 100,000 or somewhere in between. It's easy to do, just enter your AAdvantage number and they will credit your account in 3-5 days. Here's the link: http://www.facebook.com/aadvantage?s...46688548725178
Thanks. 200 miles here.

On your "profile" page, it will say "jerryjerry likes AAdvantage". Next to that will be a little "x"...click that "X". It will give you an option of "remove and unlike". That will get you off the AAdvantage liking thing.
wow. A friend just showed me a serious flaw with the flash. He got a quick 50 000 miles but not sure if he will accept it since of the tax limitations...

Are you saying the game can be exploited because of design flaw? if so, wow.

Haha. Good one...there is good attention and bad attention

You may choose to support Facebook, but I choose not to. I know it's sacrilege to say on FT, but some of us have morals and values that are more important than deals. Every person who signs up for Facebook, even with a fake alias, merely prolongs its unwarranted (in my opinion) existence.

So is cheating the public. That doesn't make it right.
