AirScrip Use

Remember the AirScrip coupons? I received mine in Dec 94 and have yet to use any. They expire Dec 00 as far as I can tell. Has anyone redeemded any and did they meet any resistance or better yet any understanding from a ticket agent?

I used some of mine on a UA flight about two years ago without encountering any problems. Of course, I couldn't book the fare on the Web, but the folks at the ticket office seemed unfazed by it. I used it on a V class fare, if IIRC.

Lucky you, flyguy, my scrip expired last year.

You just reminded me I have but one left of this rip-off legal settlement. Usage of the script (apt name) usually require a very seasoned ticket counter person or a group of in-experienced ones. Best to give to a good travel agent, let them do on the job, and save a lot of your wait time at airport ticket counter. Be certain to sign in the proper places first.

Please be aware, they state on certificate in very fine print "not to be used with any upgrade coupons, milage awards etc (or words to that effect). And true, I found it very difficult or impossible to get upgraded when using them on most major airlines.

I had a lot of AirScrip, since I filed a claim for more than the normal amount of travel. Had to send documents, but got a fair amount of scrip. Ended up using all of it for various trips, and never had any problem. Usually used it to discount my travel when flying with the family, who were flying on FF tickets through my miles. That way, using a scrip-discounted ticket, I still got more miles for further traveling. Never had a problem, but I was always making my reservations with FF tickets anyway, which I just picked up when traveling through the PHL airport. It's found money, IMHO. As to it being a "rip-off legal settlement", I think that it was a good settlement to a questionable class action, which may not have had much merit. The traveling public had the opportunity to benefit, the airlines got to generate additional travel, and I am sure that the lawyers got paid handsomely on both sides, no doubt. Will be happy to discuss the theory of price-signaling, which is what the airline price-fixing case was based upon(which settled with the Airscrip class action settlement) if anyone so desires. I think I may have discussed it in a previous post, but don't have the patience to go back and find it.

AirScrip are coupons for dollars off tickets from the major airlines that were awarded back a few years ago as settlement for a class action suit against the airlines for price fixing.

The coupons can be used for 10% off the purchase of a ticket on any of the airlines in the settlement.

Off the top of my head, the airlines were AA, DL, UA, TW, US, NW, and AW, though I could be forgetting one or have one too many ...

Too get the award you had to fill out a form and mail it in saying how many flights you had took and such over a specified period of time. If you claimed a lot of flights, you had to send in documentation (like DJLawman), if you claimed a modest number of flights, you just wrote it down and mailed it in (like I did). I think I got something like $80 in AirScrip for a modest amount of travel I did during college.

I had no trouble using (most of) my AirScrip, but that was when they were new and the airline personel (at least on United) were familiar with them. Haven't used them in several years, but thanks for the warning that I may have trouble with my one remaining.

By the way, Beckles, the airlines are Alaska, American, Continental, Delta, TWA, United, & USAir[ways].
