Austin Airport Opens!

Austin-Bergstrom International Airport opened this morning. So for anyone traveling to this great city, don't be surprised when you find a modern and spacious terminal when you get off your plane. Also, add 10-15 minutes to your usual commute time from the airport to downtown.

I'm gonna miss Mueller. For a city of that size, it's gotta be the most convenient airport in the country in terms of time to downtown.

Is the code still going to be AUS? And, I'm going to mis the short commutes also. I guess all those hotels with "-Airport" are going to have to change their ads.

The code for Austin-Bergstrom International Airport will still be AUS. There was an article in the Austin American-Statesman recently mentioning that fact.

Glad to see the new airport in AUS is up and running. I remember a presentation by the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport I attended a few months ago, where they detailed the progress of construction and how they were able to easily update the design using computers.

BTW, the new Airport Hilton was known in its military incarnation as 12th Air Force Headquarters, informally as the Roundhouse.

Yep, JAWsII, born in the shadow of the Alamo (well, nearby, at any rate).
Regarding the new Austin Airport Hilton, the round shape of the old air force base central command should be interesting to some folks. Won't be ready for check in for quite some time -- I saw it a couple of weeks ago and it looked like they had it up on stilts or something. A lot of renovation needed between now and the first guest.

Boy, it looks like the Austin Powers marketing machine missed out on a promotional opportunity with this though ... Austin airport ... Austin Powers ... yeah baby ...

OMNI: I don't think psychadelic colored clothing, British wit and dentally challenged men will go with boots, Stetsons and drawl.

UNless it's a Southwest airlines flight.

Welcome bluebonnet for your posts and your original name. I love the flowers (they are one of the few flowers that don't send me in sneezing fits!)

As Austin himself would say, "OH, BEHAVE!" And as for whether Austin Powers-esque clothes would make it on Southwest, I can actually imagine Herb Kelleher himself in that get-up. He visited the waiting area at Dallas Love Field one time in an Easter Bunny outfit and handed out goodies to the passengers before they were herded on the plane.
