Is it true that if you cancel your BA Visa, you maintain all of your BA miles and rewards (such as companion voucher)?

I don't use my BA Visa anymore, and have been holding onto it since I haven't used my 100k+ miles and rewards, but if I keep blue membership status with the executive club and can still use my rewards with my credit card, I plan to cancel it before paying a 2nd $75 fee.

Anyone have a reason not to cancel this card? (other than the regular penalties of canceling a card affecting your general credit)

The card is coinworthy and the miles thus run up on BA can be used on partner airlines to avoid BA surcharge charges. It also comes in handy to scrape ice from your windshield, remove bee stingers and clear crumbs off a table cloth.

I guess these objectives would be well served even with a cancelled card?

in the big thread on this card, some 1 has posted the companion voucher t & c's....perhaps a visit to the exec club site will provide you the answer.....good luck....

edit to add....i assume by rewards you mean using the mi's?.....i think i read somewhere that canceling w/i 6 mo could cancel the mi's, but i wont swear to it....

I never thought of such great uses my BA card. My favourite has to be scraping ice (being from boston )

I canceled both of mine, but there is also a promo where you get 20% back on award redemptions on BA metal if you have the card.

Not any more. Effective Oct 1 after ATI, BA charges YQ on ALL PARTNERS flights.

There is a thread in BA forum on this subj. You may want to change your smiley once you read that thread.

In another thread somebody quoted from a T&C saying that your card had to be active for the companion voucher. It would be a huge loss if they were to yank the voucher. I suggest you call them to validate. ANd then let us know!

Got the offer too, but too bad has to be on BA metal. I need some AA tickets.

Isn't it that the AA miles have a surcharge when used on BA, not vice versa? I did a little check today by logging into BAEC and finding a flight from BOS to MIA (on AA), and the cost was 25,000 plus $5, same as using AA miles. (I didn't book it -- this was just for curiosity.)

I tried checking TPAC on a partner, but I didn't have the patience to get it to route not through LHR.

The BA website is not updated, but soon will be. The sad outcome of the ATI effective Oct 1.

Read the Post No.5. 100% AA metal, BA site showed $59 tax, actual booking they had to pay an additional $175 YQ or there about. South America EZE to JFK to ORD one way on 100% AA flights. Then they added ORD to YYC on the itinerary, and is YQed another $74.

Ditto someone ticketed an itinerary LAX-HKG-BKK on CX, that route used to have less than $70 total taxes, he had to pay over $200. YQ of course.

Until someone actually TICKETED a BA award on partners, particularly AA domestic, and is not charged YQ, I would assume that the options of avoiding BA YQ on BA miles has been gone.

This makes redemption for coach tickets utterly expensive!

Now I have to figure out what to do with all those BA miles.

That sucks... I was planning to use them on LAN to go to Easter Island to avoid the taxes rather than going to Kiev with the taxes. I guess that doesn't matter anymore!

Check the thread mentioned, and ask GUWonder on how his US to South America itinerary on LAN ticketed 2 days ago did not have to pay YQ.

If you can finalize your itinerary quick enough, may be there is a window to avoid the YQ before BA update its website to reflect the YQ.

are the taxes on aa domestic as well?
