AA Upgrade Availability ??

I am an Exec Platinum with AA and have noticed that upgrade availability has gotten really tough in the past few months. Earlier in the year and last year I was running at around 50-60%, I am currently experiencing about 10%. I fly mostly out of LAX to the East Coast. Anybody else with the same experience? I hear that DL may be similar but United have much higher availability.

Welcome to FT! If you are EXP and only having a 10% success rate from LAX, you are doing something seriously wrong.
Mucho discussion in the AA forum on this very topic.

You may want to have someone move this to the AA forum where you would get more responses, but I agree, 50-60% and 10% sound pretty bad.

I'm at 100% and only fly during peak business travel periods. Sure, I have had a few close calls at the gate, but 10% is just atrocious.

What is your travel pattern? Is it always the same route?

In my experience, while it may be tougher than it was, I always find AAdvantage to be the most redeemable -- even though I'm not a big AA flyer. This becomes more and more important as the others - ESPECIALLY DL! - get much tougher. This comment re DL is actually more in regard to the subtle increase in mileage requirements, with "25,000" evaporating at a painful rate.

And welcome, AJBT.

I am booking 2 weeks in advance, requesting upgrades online shortly after booking and then on check in. The routes are mainly LAX-BOS, LAX-JFK and LAX IAD at peak hours. I am booking the direct flights rather than thru ORD or DFW but since Sept 1, I have received one upgrade in 12 flights.
