Using CC to purchase "Forever" Stamps

Hi!

You can use your airline, reward, or cashback CC to purchase "forever" postage stamps from the US Postal Service at a post office or online at USPS.com. The price of first class postage is set to increase from $.44 to $.46 on Jan. 2, a 4.5% hike, but the "forever" stamps remain valid for first class domestic postage.

If you or your small business do a significant amount of mailing, you can combine the soon-to-be-discounted postage rate with your CC reward for a 5.5%-6.5% boost.

Of course you have to be willing to use the stamps rather than meter your mail. If you buy online, USPS charges a flat $1.00 postage and handling regardless of the size of the order.

Or buy them on eBay right now for an even better discount.

While this is a fine idea for the short run, it doesn't make sense for the long run because by law postage rate increases can be no higher than inflation, and stamp prices are lumpy because they only increase in whole penny increments.

But getting a "savings account" at the rate of inflation could still be better than bank rates.

A law with no value.
Rates will go up more than the inflation rate with the next increase.

The law says they can do it for good reason, like they are losing money.

Better idea - buy them at Costco with your AMEX card - Costco discounts stamps by 25 per "book".

My mail delivery guy gets about $28/hr plus mucho benefits for doing a function that should pay half that rate. I assume he belongs to the largest union in the US so he probably needs a high wage rate to pay his union dues.

Better yet, pay your bills online and communicate via email. Because I so rarely use stamps anymore, I have about a five year supply of Forever stamps.

But, what are you going to do with all those forever stamps when the post office is phased out and mail is no longer sent?

This has always been my tactic, especially given the stamps sell below value and one can stack a few programs / discounts on eBay purchases ...

You find an auction like this one. Then you do the standard eBay thing.
