Exchange miles for gift cards?
I read a recent article (in either the NY Times or the WSJ) suggesting categorically that frequent flyer miles can be exchanged for gift cards.
Does this apply to all US-based airlines? And also to foreign programs such as Air France/KLM? What's the best way to do this: directly through the airlines? through Points.com? or through another middleman?
Thanks.

Welcome to FlyerTalk!! It certainly is not universal but it is a very common way to redeem points at a cruddy valuation. Many US-based programs offer such directly, without a middle-man. Non-US programs do not offer such a conversion as often.

Even where available take heed, as the cents per point ratio is going to be a lot lower then when redeeming miles for premium class flights.
