What kind of "regular spending" does Standard Chartered offer? Funny you asked:

(Reuters) - The U.S. Treasury Department and Federal Reserve were blindsided and angered by the decision of a New York banking regulator to launch an explosive attack on Standard Chartered Plc over $250 billion in alleged money laundering transactions tied to Iran, sources familiar with the situation said.

By going it alone through the order he issued on Monday, the head of the recently created New York State Department of Financial Services, Benjamin Lawsky, also complicates talks between the Treasury and London-based Standard Chartered to settle claims over the transactions, several of the sources said.

His action, which included releasing embarrassing communications and details of the bank's alleged defiance of U.S. sanctions, is rewriting the playbook on how foreign banks settle cases involving the processing of shadowy funds tied to sanctioned countries. In the past, such cases have usually been settled through negotiated settlements with public shaming kept to a minimum.

In his order, Lawsky said the bank's dealings exposed the U.S. banking system to terrorists, drug traffickers and corrupt states....

I like the approach. Public shaming for financing terrorists is ok by me.

Miles for Climbing Live Volcanos

For you miles collectors who like to live on the edge, Volcano Discovery lists various climbs to the tops of live volcanos. Ever had the urge to see what makes Stromboli smoke up close and personal? Or wonder what it was like to be in Pompeii back in the late 70s?

Use your favorite miles Mastercard or Visa card for one way or (if you are real lucky) round trip experiences.

I went on that tour a couple years back, it was free with my carte d'tudiant. Surprisingly interesting and not that gross. Didn't realize I could earn CC miles with it

LOL, I've read a hilarious article about misstravel by a female journalist, but can't find it right now. But I love these pearls:

Brandon Wade, however, maintains that the service is not about escorts or prostitution. He tells WebProNews that Miss Travel is simply a dating site that combines the adventure of travel.

We advocate the fact that generous users have to pay for the travel expenses of the attractive users, but nowhere on the website do we advocate that money can be exchanged between the members, nor is the word sex ever sort of mentioned, he said.
Not even mentioning the new term "generous user". That is itself precious.

Egypt Air proudly reports that you can get miles for purchases at Radio Shack in Cairo, depending upon your membership level. You will find a Radio Shack conveniently located near the King Tut Hostel. This is an ongoing promotion so don't all run at once - walk like an Egyptian.

What about those of us who are neither generous nor attractive? I feel so despondent!

84fiero - I assure you that Frequent Flyer programs are now actively trying to rescue "those of us who are neither generous nor attractive."

Breast Implants Cost 120 New York Flights for Finnair Flyers
By Kati Pohjanpalo - November 13, 2009 06:14 EST

Nov. 13 (Bloomberg) -- First it was free flights, hotel rooms and magazine subscriptions. Now, Finnair Oyj, Finlands biggest airline, has a new idea for attracting frequent flyers: free plastic surgery in exchange for air miles.

Breast implants, hair replacement surgery or a face-lift performed by the Nordstroem Hospital in Helsinki are among the newest offerings in the carriers Finnair Plus loyalty service, according to the programs Web site.

About 1.3 million flyers are enrolled in Finnairs loyalty program, Tuomainen said. Earning the 3.18 million points for breast augmentation surgery requires 120 round-trip, business- class flights between Helsinki and New York, according to a points table on Finnairs Web site.
