AF or DL Business Class -- Which is better?

In late august I am flying MUC-JFK. I went on the Delta website to book an award business class flight, and was presented (basically) with the following choice of longhaul planes:

AF 777
DL 767-400

So my question is, which airline has the better business class in that type of a/c? thanks.

Air France, no question. I would say avoid Delta at all costs.

Thanks.

If KLM became an option, would you recommend them over AF?

Welcome to Flyertalk.

If you look at seatguru.com you will see that:

Delta is in process of converting its 767-400 fleet from conventional seats to flat-bed seats in the BusinessElite cabin. This probably means there is no guarantee which type of seats will be on your route, but I think DL has set aside most of he flat-bed equipment for flights to/from London:

http://www.seatguru.com/airlines/Del..._767-400_B.php

Air France operates four versions of 777, and all have lie-flat seats in Affaires Class:

http://www.seatguru.com/airlines/Air...ng_777-300.php

http://www.seatguru.com/airlines/Air..._777-300_B.php

http://www.seatguru.com/airlines/Air..._777-300_C.php

If you're not clear on the difference between "flat-bed" and "lie-flat" there is a generic explanation with diagrams on SeatGuru.

I think you will receive better answers to this question if you search in the Air France and Delta sections looking for information about the specific type of aircraft that Delta uses on this route and reports of the service on both AF and DL. It's better to decide for yourself than to rely on replies which offer a dismissive conclusion with no explanation .

Let me clarify, since you're right. I didn't exactly present anything to back up my statement.

Delta is less likely to have a lie flat product for you, and AF will most likely have better food. This doesn't always apply, but in general, when faced with the choice between a foreign carrier and a US carrier, I will choose the foreign carrier.

As far as KLM, I really don't know much about their premium product, though I have heard some good things. Definitely read around in the AF, KLM, and DL forums to get a better idea.

If the award seats are available at the Low mileage rate, I would not wait to grab them, on Air France or Delta. There are hundreds of complaints on the Delta board regarding lack of availability of award tickets at the Low rate.

I will second that!
When you fly a US carrier, they act as if they are doing you a favor.

But,
If the award seats are available at the Low mileage rate, I would not wait to grab them, on Air France or Delta.

I wouldn't, I'd say AF has a bit better J product on haul and definately better J on the short haul leg (what KLM is offering as a short haul J is basically Y+).

CDG is a terrible airport though, don't expect anything to work... Almost missed my flight standing an hour in the business class transfer desk line. (Plus, is it just me or does anybody else feel like they want to kill somebody every time they hear that noise CDG uses before announcement instead of the traditional blim blom).

Lounge is ok though.

AF if you don't have sensitive smelling habits. Their business class section has smelled horrible in my past travels.

I have traveled on Air France twice from CDG to MUC.

Both flights were pretty average and the plane was an old Boeing 737.
The food was ok and the crew were pretty polite and they spoke really good English compared to the crew from MUC to VCE.
