FlexPerks VS Delta Skymiles help

Hello,

It looks like there has been some discussion on FlexParks VS Delta Skymiles, and i would like some opinion on which one i should stick with before the annual fees come around since i have both of them.

FlexPerks points: 35,655
Skymiles Points: 95,127

I don't fly much at all, most of these are from bonuses for signing up and Dining for miles (i get the 5 Delta points per $ spent)

I collect miles to fly to Germany, I am German and most of my family lives there. I know the Skymiles is good to fly to Germany, but would the FlexPerks be?

Other things to consider: i live near the Big NWA/Delta hub in Detroit
Currently i got all payments and auto Deducts setup with flexPerks, so it would be a pain to switch but not impossible.

I pay of the card every month, so i don't worry about interest or fees.

Suggestions?

Thank you!

Are these your only cards? If so Am Ex isn't taken everywhere so your Flexcard would be necessary.

Also, when you use your flexcard rewards to 'buy' the airline tickets you earn FF miles on the trip. When you cash in skymiles you don't earn...

I'm with K20
AmeX is definitely not as popular as it used to be. My mother came to that realization on a trip after I warned her to get a US debit card bank account, but she was afraid of change. Use your perks card since you get a good return and earn miles on any trip back to Germany.

"I don't fly much at all, most of these are from bonuses for signing up and Dining for miles (i get the 5 Delta points per $ spent)"...and people wonder why Delta reward tickets are so hard to get.

It can be extremely hard to book an award ticket with Delta especially at the low miles level, but all depending on the destination of course. You might want to go to delta and see what the situation is on reward tickets to Germany.

OT, but s/he started it.

Er...DL is the one selling the points . I'm one of the ones wondering why DL award tix. are so hard to get. Actually I'm wondering why DL sell more miles (whether by flying or by credit card usage) than they have awards to allot. Sure, the highest level awards are easy to score, but how many people will ever have that many miles?

We have received very good value from our FlexPerks points so far (two last minute tickets with a cash value of $396 each for only 20K points each). We directed a lot of spending to the DL Amex after signing up in June but switched it all to FlexPerks in Dec. We will cancel our DL Amex before the renewal fee appears. The ease of booking a FlexPerks award, the choice of carriers, the ability to earn FF miles and get upgrades on the flights, and the $25 reimbursement for expenses during the trip are all icing on the cake. Worst case, each Flexperk point is worth 1 cent in statement credit.

If you're targeting overseas travel, the picture can be a little less clear. A coach ticket from DTW to FRA purchased now for summer travel will run you 70,000 FlexPerks points (as the cash fare is probably over $1,400). But you could (in theory) get a DL award for 60,000 miles. Business class awards may also skew in favor of DL miles but, again, it depends finding "Low" DL award tickets. There is never a problem with "availability" of FlexPerks awards.

In your specific case, you really don't have enough FlexPerks points today to go to Germany. You have plenty of DL miles, even for a "Medium" coach award and that should be easy to find. Add another 5K miles and you might get lucky finding a 100K business class award. That would be nice. But going forward, you probably want to opt toward accumulating FlexPerks and don't bother with the Amex.

I'd ditch them both and go with a Starwood SPG Amex.

problem with flex perks is when the ticket is over 400 dollars they
won't let you redeem until you have more points in your account
I am canceling my card.If they allowed some revenue too
I would use this card freely
go with the spg amex as said earlier and burn the other 2 cards

I too am wondering about FlexPoints vs. Delta AMEX. I have searched both for flights and see that FlexPoints requires fewer points to purchase the same flight. Also, when booking using FlexPoints, if you are elite, you are eligible for upgrades.

It's listed better here http://www.starwoodhotels.com/prefer...gram_tour.html

Basically SPG gives you 1:1 points transfer on many airlines and if you transfer 20,000 at one time, you get an extra 5,000 for free.

If the annual fee is a concern, check your total spending because US Bank will waive the annual fee of your spending exceeds 24K/yr.

That said, I have no love for either card !
