Pardon my ignorance/suspicion, but whose "official" guidebook? Even at a great price (i.e., free), what's in it that has such value? I'm interested if you can give me a sample of the wisdom within.

jaws43 Sep 29, 1998 7:29 pm

Catman has always said he was writing a book.
Maybe this is it. Probably not, though, as the OL' Tom would have surely had autographed copies for us.

tedhl Sep 29, 1998 9:06 pm

from a webflyer product page...you can get to the page by clicking on the "products" link on the main www.webflyer.com page...

The Official Frequent Flyer Guidebook (OFFG) is a pocket-size reference book packed with the latest information on all of your favorite frequent travel programs AND the new 6th edition is THE ALLIANCE EDITION - covering all the recent program changes. The OFFG contains 600 pages of detailed information, including award charts on 50+ major frequent traveler programs. Thanks TDEHL for guiding the right path for rerry.I though everyone on this website knew of OFFg.My apologies.

MileageAddict Sep 30, 1998 8:38 am

Is the edition being offered in the Delta newsletter the 5th or 6th edition? No use paying even $4.95 for out of date information if they are offering the 5th edition.

msg53 Sep 30, 1998 9:51 am

Mileageflyer 6th edition is being printed now.Delivery nov

MILEAGEADDICT 6th edition is being printed now.Delivery nov

MileageAddict Sep 30, 1998 11:19 am

Just ordered my copy. Credit card won't be billed until it ships in late October. Grand total including shipping is $4.95. It is the 6th edition.

I have the 4th edition of this book and have worn it out. This is a great publication even at full price but a fantastic deal at with the $10+ discount.

baobab Sep 30, 1998 11:49 am

I presume you have to be a Delta ff to take advantage of this..?

jaws43 Sep 30, 1998 12:12 pm

WebFlyer web price is $14.99, plus shipping.
How does one get the 4.95 price from Delta?

MileCrazy Sep 30, 1998 12:31 pm

baobab:

apparently being a delta ff member is not a requirement to order. i just ordered the book via telephone, and all she asked for was name, address, and credit card info. my delta ff number was never brought up. as long as delta doesn't compare ff member lists with the guidebook order list, you should be ok (of course if they get 10 million requests for the book when there's only, say, 8 million ff members, they may think somebody's been releasing insider secrets somewhere, but we know better, don't we?).

baobab Sep 30, 1998 12:40 pm

Thanks MC - I may well try it too...

MileageAddict Sep 30, 1998 12:44 pm

Hey, I don't belong to the Delta FF program either. The question never came up when I placed my order.

msg53 Sep 30, 1998 2:58 pm

Sorry I didnt tell everyone when i posted this.ANYONE can purchase book for $4.95 each

msg53 Sep 30, 1998 3:03 pm

Also ff will not charge your card until book is shipped.DO NOT have to be Delta member for this Great offer.

MileKing Sep 30, 1998 7:12 pm

Are you sure its the new edition (6th) being published in November that you will get through the Delta offer?

msg53 Sep 30, 1998 9:37 pm

Mileageaddict yes per Inside Flyer. They are wiating for copies from the printer. Will ship November per a live person in Colorado Springs.

Rudi Oct 1, 1998 12:04 am

will the ship to europe? (I don't mind some addional shipping costs).

msg53 Oct 1, 1998 7:23 am

Rudi I will check for you today. How is your trip?

msg53 Oct 1, 1998 12:16 pm

Rudi per Inside Flyer it will cost you $9.45
complete to Switzerland.Enjoy the rest of your RTW trip.

MileageAddict Oct 1, 1998 12:37 pm

Rudi,

Even at $9.45, that is a terrific bargain!

Rudi Oct 3, 1998 3:48 am

thank you - I will order it from the peace of my home-working-place (actually I am hammering the dirtiest keyboard I have seen in my life at Connaught place in the heart of New Delhi).

megamiles Oct 3, 1998 4:37 pm

Rudi, nice to see that you made it to India - and you're in Cannaught Place in New Delhi. If you have the time and the inclination go visit old Delhi - much more interesting and less westernized (admittedly even dirtier and more chaotic) but a better travel experience than just CP which is just hamburgers and Benetton shops these days.

Catman Oct 6, 1998 8:24 am

It's interesting that DELTA is offering
the Official Frequent Flyer Guidebook at
such a discounted price. I thought it would
be only available EXCLUSIVELY though Inside
Flyer Publications?

Anyway I ordered a book through Inside Flyer
and will get 150 ClickPoints (or is it now
CLickMiles?)

Question for Inside Flyer: is Delta's offering the same great book that Randy and
you guys have put together in the past?

And for the record: I am writing a book but
it's not about Frequent flyer programs. I
cannot and will not compete with Randy. He's the maestro of Frequent Flyer travel. I am
FlyerTalk's comic relief! CATMAN

christiant Nov 19, 1998 8:16 am

Someone already receive is copy?

I'm impatient to receive mine, maybe longer to receive it in Canada?

Thanks

philforest Nov 19, 1998 8:21 am

tedhl: Your description is fantastic; but are you sure you don't work for FFTL?

MileageAddict Nov 19, 1998 8:43 am

No copy received here in the USA yet either. I don't think it has been released for distribution yet.

Catman Nov 19, 1998 11:39 am

Maybe our friends at Inside Flyer can tell us here when the Official Frequent Flyer Guidebook, sixth edition is coming out.

I remember when I had problems placing my order over the Inside Flyer site that someone told me that they would be ready to ship soon. (I don't know the exact date, and I though they said several weeks but I didn't write this down.) They did say they will not
post the charge until the book comes out!

I can't wait for it! And I"m getting 250 ClickMIles for the purchase! That's shopping!

christiant Nov 19, 1998 12:06 pm

talked to someone at FF. They've got technical problem printing the book. Also some information was incorrect.
The book will not be ship before Christmas.

Sorry folks.

Rudi Nov 19, 1998 12:13 pm

I apologize to all of you: I guess they started (and do still) fight over the chocolates in Colorado Spring - sorry.

tedhl Nov 19, 1998 6:25 pm

philforest: oh, of course not...i don't work for FFTL (which is ??)...maybe i didn't make it clear...i just copied and pasted that description from the webflyer product page... :)

baobab Nov 19, 1998 7:02 pm

philforest is the left field guy... tedhl is real, phil, and definitely in Hong Kong, not Colorado.

MileageAddict Jan 7, 1999 10:21 am

Hmmm....has anyone received their 6th edition copy of this handbook yet? I haven't and was wondering if it was just me or if we are all waiting...

baobab Jan 7, 1999 10:22 am

No sign of it yet, MA.

Catman Jan 7, 1999 11:03 am

I have NOT received mine either. Inside Flyer Said there was a delay by the publisher.

I'll send a quick e-mail to ask them about the book and ask them to post it here. CATMAN

rewardplanner Jan 7, 1999 2:58 pm

It seems there is a lot of "Buzz" about the guidebook; and thank you to CATMAN for the email, I will give you all the scoop!
The Northwest/Continental alliance has put the book on delay. We wanted to make sure the latest and greatest info regarding this alliance was put into the book. We are putting the finishing touches into it and are hoping to get it out in 8-12 weeks.
Sorry for any inconvenience, but when the finished product is in your hands, you'll know why!

Catman Jan 7, 1999 11:49 pm

Thanks for getting back to us rewardplanner,
and we all anxiously await the new and even
better OFFICIAL FREQUENT FLYER GUIDEBOOK!
If YOu can please give us a heads up when it's in the mail! THanks! CATMAN

MIKE MAHONEY Jan 7, 1999 11:56 pm

THANKS REWARDPLANNER!!! Keep us all posted.

Randy Petersen Jan 12, 1999 10:21 pm

Hello flyers... Since I'm responsible for the Official Frequent Flyer Guidebook, I thought I'd apologize for the delay. As rewardplanner noted, the several month delay from CO/NW put me into a tough call to make, complete the book and know that it wasn't complete without that Alliance, or bit the bullet. As you now know, I bought the bullet and am just now completing it. We've never charged anyone for it so nothing has been lost and if you needed some of the miles you were waiting to earn, I can fix that. Hope you all understand, but the book is coming and we think it will be a very good reference book to own.

Randy Petersen, publisher
