Achieving 1K Status

Just got an email from UA - looks like they have credited the 500 mile
minimums from all the flights that didnt have it this year.

With a trip to Europe that I'm taking for Xmas I'll be damn close to 1K
status by the time i come back on Dec 30th.

Is 1K status worth setting up a mileage run on Dec 31st ?

Short Answer: Yes!

Long Answer:

1k status gives you, among other things:
  • Better chance of upgrading with e-500s
  • 6 Systemwide upgrades
  • Chance to earn 2 CR-1s for each quarter with 10k UA miles
  • Increased Award Availability
  • Better protection in irrops

Yes! 1K is definitely worth the MR.

But you are cutting it very fine, sir (to paraphrase what a gate agent at LHR once told me )

If you are that close, a single mileage run away, it should be a no brainer.

To 1K or Not to 1K

You know, versus years past, is it really that big of a big deal??

Upgrades now have the co-payments, award levels have jumped 20-30% next year and upgrades with lesser frequency are clearing prior to departure time.

With just 1 MR to qualify, I say go for it; but, beyond maybe 10-20K remaining, save the dough.

It depends on the person's travel habits. 6 SWUs alone can easily be worth the money and time spent on 20k in MRs.
