Law of Unintended Consequences

[Emphasis mine.]

I am exactly in accord with ed1, and for the reason given. There is a big opportunity for the law of unintended consequences to crop up here.

That said, thanks to all the Mods for this semi-improvement.

Now, if you can just think of something to do with the MR Deals that are apparently still alive, but soon degenerate into several hundred comments that are clearly Mileage Run Discussion. Examples of this clutter will become more obvious once the clutter you are removing is removed.

Thank god. This is something I've wanted for over two years....

I didn't think the MR Discussion forum was even that old...

Well, I've created a thread in the TalkBoard forum: Proposal: Create a "Fare Gone" sub-forum. Maybe they'll agree with us.

^ Thanks. See you there. But I hope this topic gets more exercise here, too.

Nice move Beaubo ^

I never could see the relevance to Mileage running of the 143,932nd post to a fare-gone SFO-AKL thread. Or similar...

Not that the things discussed weren't important to the posters. It just got away from running, that's all.

We should know technically ALL fares would be gone eventually and it's even not clear how the post is labeled as "Fare Gone" thread. I believe that noboby can answer this particular question.

I want to add my grattitude for this long awaited cure for seeing the same thread from over several years ago keep popping up.

Most of the clutter I've identified on the MR Discussion forum are threads that are essentially 'low fare requests' masquerading (probably not intentionally of course!) as MR requests. If THOSE threads could be bundled off onto a new forum/subforum 'Low Fare Requests', I think that MR Discussion would be a major beneficiary, aloong with the 'Budget Travel' forum.

No forum on FT is meant to be a quasi-travel agent/consultant, yet those requests come in on a steady basis. Since such requests persist despite stickies and other members and Mods posts not to do so, it might be that creating a new 'Low Fare Request' forum (ghetto?) might be an effective fix to streamline MR Discussion.

Thank you for this tremendous improvement to the MR deals forum.

Thanks Beaubo but a "fare gone" sub-forum would be great

Feel free to post on that forum if you think there is a need for another subforum.

In the meantime, the movement of FARE GONE threads to MR Discussion is certainly not a cure-all solution, but hopefully it will make the 'MR Deals' forum a more streamlined place.

And to reiterate, while I posted the thread, it was indeed a team decision with fellow Mods VPescado and rcs85551 to agree on the FARE GONE decision.

EXCELLENT - more streamlined:)

Thanks beaubo ^ - you da man! :)

I am really confused. I can still see all of the "moved" threads here; can still click on them to see them, and still post to them if I so desire. So, what great advantage/difference is there to so-called 'moving' them to another forum? If they still stay here, how is the 'clutter' being eliminated?

First, you have to inform people that a thread has been moved, otherwise there is no paper trail to direct people where to find the 'moved' thread.

As new threads are started in MR Deals, the 'moved' threads will move further down page one and eventually off of page one.

While you posting on a FARE GONE thread, it will only show as a new post in MR Discussion, not on MR Deals. So, your post will not bump that FARE GONE thread back to the top of MR Deals. FRom a bump standpoint, the FARE GONE deals are closed on MR Deals, your post will only bump on MR Discussion!

After a certain amount of time (I think a month), the 'moved' thread will disapear from MR Deals altogether.

Since there are still so many 'Moved' threads and not a lot of new threads to flush out the 'Moved' threads, you might see them for a couple of days. But once we start moving FARE GONE threads in real time, there won't be any backlog.

Bottom line, be patient as this new process needs a couple of days to get its sealegs!

Well, the links showing them as moved will quickly fall off page one.
