Cool MR, yet again. Help please!!

I did this last year and unfortunately let December creep up on me again. I need to requal for Premier on UA and I am about 5k short. Need miles not segments. basically I can try to get in two trips before Xmas using e-fares, or anything goes from the 25th to the 31st. Any suggestions and help is much appreciated and overnight stays do not have to be out of the question.

Seems the OP made the same ommission last year.

I'm guessing LAX.

Home Airport is LAX and budget is not a major concern, but have to stay within reason. A trip to Germany would be about $900 and would fulfill, but I prefer to stay under $500. Does not have to be solely domestic routing either.

Your guess is correct and I am still a neophyte when it comes to properly posting on these forums. Sorry

LAX-ORD-MHT-ORD-LAX 12/15 $219 all in on UA. Probably good on other dates as well. 5176 miles

farecompare.com is your friend.

You can send me a check for the $280 difference at your convenience.

I tried this and either I was not doing something correctly or it was only valid for a short period of time. Now I need just under 4k miles and it looks like I have anything from the 28th to the 31st to get it done. Would prefer to keep the cost under $500 if possible.

I posted that flight 11 days ago and it was only good for the 12/15. That is why it won't work now.

However, since your mileage needs have reduced, search for roundtrips LAX-MHT on Orbitz and you'll get LAX-PHL-MHT-IAD-LAX on US/UA combo for $454.10 all in on 12/30. That is the best I could find this late in the year.

Book this quickly or it may go up.

Just a lurker's idea....

Since this last minute thing is a recurring bad dream for you, and you're considering spending a large amount of $$$ for 2P...

Perhaps you ought to let it slip for a couple weeks, and carefully plan and execute 4 far cheaper transcons before 2/28.

This ought to cost only twice what you're considering (or so), you'd not only requal for 08 - but 09 as well!
Two years for the effort.

Plus, you'd be halfway to 1p, where the bennies are considerably greater.

Are you sure the requalification period is valid until 2-28? I will check out the UA website, but I remember that only being during specific promotional periods. Thanks for the heads up.

What he is suggesting is for you to qualify for 2P in Jan & Feb the normal way, 25k miles or 30 segments. This way, you're qualified for all of 2008 and 2009 and 2 months in 2010.

For example, you can get LAX-LAS-PHL-MHT-LGA-PHL-LAX (6577 miles) for about $200 throughout Jan & Feb. 4 of these and your 2P.

Or you could look into west coast segment runs on UA/US to get 30 segments quickly.

Then you'd be halfway to 1P already.

I think you've procrastinated too long to get anything reasonable for this year. You're already under the 7 day purchase deadline.

I completely forgot about this. So basically if I get that number of segments or miles in during the first quarter the airline will assign the status for 2008 and how does that work for 2009? I have a few flights set up for this weekend to achieve the threshold I need to get to 25k. I appreciate your insight and help very much.

if you fly enough to make 25k miles in 2007, you get Premier status until 02/09. If you fly 25k miles in 2008, you'll be Premier until 02/10.

joelacpa's idea was to not pay for flights in 2007 and instead use that $ to fly 25k miles in Jan & Feb of 2008, thus getting you Premier until 02/10.

Since you've already purchased your flights for this year, you may as well stick with them. That way you'll have 1P status until 02/09, and all of 2008 to fly enough to keep it longer.
