Maximum allowable mileage

I know that several times, people have posted a "maximum allowable mileage" for a particular route. I'm wondering if there is a good place to find this number. I'm struggling trying to put together a trip to Boston.

ITA shows $259 for MKE-MEM-MSP-BOS-MSP-MEM-MKE on NWA, and according to the availability websites, K is available on the outbound and T on the return (same as ITA shows: fare basis KO21VE7N and TR14QNV, respectively). Yet when I try to price it out online, the lowest I can achieve is in the $450 range. I'm wondering if I'm exceeding the mileage allowable for this route?

Any thoughts?

MPM fares are almost exclusively used for international routes; your domestic fare is limited to allowable routings, as in which cities you may connect.

Ok, thanks. I just can't figure out why this routing won't work then. Unless ITA would pull up connections that are not allowable?

Often ITA-generated itineraries can be purchased on Orbitz, even if they are not available on other sites.

... but just as often they show up on Orbitz initially, but when you then try to book it gives an error. I have the impression that the inventory is not always correct on ITA/Orbitz, and they only find out when they try to confirm with the airline. And it is not because just in that moment somebody bought the ticket - go back to ITA, and the flight still shows up...

I did try Orbitz (and expedia, and travelocity and nwa), but no dice. Thanks for the tip anyway.

As a last resort, I've had really good success using NW phone reservations for fares found on ITA. Usually I only have to give them the routing, but occasionally (especially lately) they need the fare info from the ITA page.

EDIT:
On one trip they even saved me money, even after the $10 fee. They found a K fare where ITA had a T fare.

Thanks. I will try to give them a call.
