Any way to start in LAX or SFO?

I think SYD is the problem with the JL rules, not LAX. I can get it to work JFK-LAX-HND-CGK on a JL ticket.

It looks like the JL route rules are very specific about where you can connect:
Code:

FOR TRAVEL ON/AFTER 13JAN20
3 TRANSFERS PERMITTED IN EACH DIRECTION IN YVR/
CONTIGUOUS U.S.A./PUERTO RICO/US VIRGIN ISLANDS/
MEXICO IN EACH DIRECTION
AND - 2 TRANSFERS PERMITTED IN EACH DIRECTION
IN JAPAN/INDONESIA IN EACH DIRECTION
FARE BREAK SURFACE SECTORS NOT PERMITTED AND
EMBEDDED SURFACE SECTORS PERMITTED ON THE FARE
COMPONENT.

I think otherwise JFK-HND-SYD-CGK would work under the JL MPM (125% of 12078 = 15097; JFK-HND-SYD-CGK squeaks in at 15038).

Nicely researched amigo! i got my math wrong so made the assumption ;)

No, for the past couple of years, these have been NYC only. Seems to rotate between CGK, SGN, and BKK, often with a similar deal in the other direction as well. This is the first year though that the AA fare ex-SE Asia uses QR metal instead of JL, presumably because the new 'closer' relationship that started a couple of months ago. I certainly wouldn't complain about QSuites over JL's quite narrow J seats, and I think CGK gets the 788 which has the old recliners still.

Worth note as well, NH and UA have quite a few similar deals. At least ex-SE Asia they have more cities available currently than AA and JL.

You can also add in DFW as an extra stop (i.e. JFK-DFW-LAX-HND-SYD-CGK v.v.) but as a BA Frequent Flyer, that's no benefit as i'd earn more TPs going JFK-LAX on a transcontinental service.

For $5 more you can also add DCA (i.e. JFK-DCA-LAX-HND-SYD-CGK v.v.) which does add an extra 40TPs each way, but moves you into recliners instead of lay flat on the US transcon.

Matrix Link for those struggling.

Please confirm that the fare basis for the AA fare is RRLE08MN2 ?

If so please can you explain the transfer restrictions, EF has the following text;

1 TRANSFERS PERMITTED IN EACH DIRECTION.

NONE PERMITTED IN SYD/AKL IN EACH DIRECTION
NONE PERMITTED IN SHA IN EACH DIRECTION
IN AREA 3 IN EACH DIRECTION.
AND - 3 TRANSFERS PERMITTED IN EACH DIRECTION ON AA
ONLY IN BOS/CHI/CLT/DFW/LAX/MIA/NYC/PHL/PHX/SAN/
SFO/WAS/YVR IN EACH DIRECTION
FARE BREAK AND EMBEDDED SURFACE SECTORS NOT
PERMITTED ON THE FARE COMPONENT.
2 TRANSFERS PERMITTED IN EACH DIRECTION.
NONE PERMITTED IN SYD/AKL IN EACH DIRECTION
NONE PERMITTED IN SHA IN EACH DIRECTION
IN AREA 3 IN EACH DIRECTION.
AND - 3 TRANSFERS PERMITTED IN EACH DIRECTION.
NONE PERMITTED IN SHA IN EACH DIRECTION.
AND - 1 TRANSFERS PERMITTED IN EACH DIRECTION.
1 PERMITTED BETWEEN AA AND AS IN EACH
DIRECTION.
FARE BREAK AND EMBEDDED SURFACE SECTORS NOT
PERMITTED ON THE FARE COMPONENT.

This suggests that transfers in SYD are not permitted, or am I reading the rules wrong?

Thank you.

Yes, that's the correct fare basis. It's the ANDs and the multiple clauses. yes it's hard to read. I don't know how to paste here with the formatting but the indentation helps.

not sure how the new matrix works but can you put airline codes for each segment? aa lax Aa
and QF Syd QF
That’s what I did in oldmatrix site
and perhaps make dates more flexible in case R is gone on some flight!

correct rules but incorrect reading ;-))

there are multiple sub clauses that are difficult to understnad in this format - SYD is allowed and i ticketed it already in last few days without an issue

Click on the question mark next to routing codes, it explains what things you can use.

It's also obviously not guaranteed to work every single day of the schedule.

hi - I can’t quite link as Google flights don’t show it but old ITA matrix does. Dates are wide open- you need R class on Transpacific segments on AA.

May oldmatrix.itasoftware.com find crowd-sourced support a la Linux and never die.

#AboveMyPayGrade, but still ...

I am working on getting 7 max flyer talkers to do this as a DO with 1 day in Jakarta…

If Japan opens up (for a stopover) while this fare is still around, I'd jump on board in a heartbeat.

Also, Exp Flyer shows ticketable (I think? Or at least viewable by EF, presumably in the GDS.) QF routings HND-MEL-SYD-CGK on 3/21. The outbound would depart at about the same time, and end up connecting to the same outbound SYD-CGK sector -- despite the dog-leg to MEL first.

Might MEL sidestep the prohibition of stopovers in SYD/AKL?

Cuz I would also love a week or two in MEL for some good coffee and a side jaunt to HBA.

PS."Old-fashioned" everything works for me, and usually IS more "fun," anyway.

8 legs max per ticket?
