RAP included if anyone is interested in visiting Mount Rushmore (recommended!)
tickets from DFW to RAP usually run about 700-1000 USD

IIRC, you need to have the TATL on BA, and it would probably also require a BA code-share on the AS flight. I've seen itineraries with BA coded AS flights SFO-HNL v.v.

There is also the possibility of specifying flights on ITA, separating flight numbers like ASxxx, BAyyy

BA codeshare flights are limited to certain routes. Effective November 23, 2016 the following routes have BA coded flights on AS Metal. See the full story here.

The codeshare deal is effective for travel from November 23, and sees customers able to book connecting flights on Alaska Air routes at ba.com, to seven destinations on the West Coast of America, and three in Hawaii.

Customers can connect on the following flights:
  • from Seattle to Honolulu, Kona and Kahului
  • from Seattle, San Francisco and San Jose (California) to Portland
  • from Seattle to Salt Lake City, Boise, Fairbanks and Spokane
  • from San Jose to Santa Ana

Any idea if there is any recourse to get AA to correct the booking to the cabin that was shown on the booking page (F)? I assume not.
"First class" is just how domestic business class is called in the USA. Confusing, I know...

Starting in RTM brings the price a bit further down. E.g. RTM - SFO for £938. Open-jaw is also possible.

AA pulled this switch on me recently as well, so you have my sympathies. The plane was an old clunker with miserable legroom in business. To add salt to the wound, AA included menus titled Flagship First Class.

RTM-LCY-JFK is my weapon of choice. Great fare, second time flying the banker shuttle from RTM for around 1000 EUR.
