Top tips for the "Dim Sum / Chicken adobo" fare:
  • At more than 5 weeks after most of us booked this fare it looks increasingly likely that the fare will stick. However prudence is still advisable and we should all avoid contacting the booking agent and if essential to contact try to deal with the airline direct.
  • Check that your original itenary is intact and ticketed as PAL revised their LHR flight schedule in early September and there appear to now only be 5 flights a week now rather than daily. Use TripCase to do this - see post #114 on how to do this (thanks to @MyFlights App). If you have incurred an involuntary change you can contact PAL and they will permit one change to amend your itenary. They appear to be flexible to shift flights to adjacent days, but if you try to push to be rerouted on another carrier to maintain the original itenary times you might find your flights are cancelled and you end up with a refund.
  • Online seat assignments are not possible on PAL when booked through a 3rd party, you have to call up, it is best to call PAL on 0808 164 9888 rather than the booking agent.
  • Whilst it looks like the fare is going to stick be aware that making other travel arrangements around this booking are at your own risk so consider making bookings that are refundable or covered by insurance if needed.
In hopes that this will go ahead, here's a wiki to see who's going and when.

Guess I better be prepared for chasing the miles...

By the way, TripIt just told me my flight to HKG will be operated by CX - surely that must be a bug?
I don’t find anything about a codeshare agreement on that route on the internet.

I recently returned having completed this trip. I make the following points to possibly help others.

- On checking in at LHR, the onward flights from MNL to HKG seats could not be allocated. The rep said it was because almost everyone on the business cabin (LHR-MNL) was onward to HKG and that the cabin was smaller on that flight (3 rows). The luggage was checked through in any case, the agent just suggested there was a possibility we might be downgraded in MNL. We took this MNL flight on schedule, 2 hours after landing at HKG, having had to visit the transit desk. Turn left on getting off the plane (do not turn to the right as this is for exiting the airport). At the transit desk, along with a number of others, it was slow going and they issued the ticket for MNL-HKG. We were then required to go back on the opposite side, and scan through our hand luggage.
- Annoyingly, the gate for the flight to HKG kept changing and there were no announcements being made. Someone missed another flight and we could see him remonstrating, such was the chaos. People seemed to know which gate it was by word of mouth, which was difficult when 95% of waiting passengers are filipino. We followed the herd..
- The food on the flights on the way out was passable and the service decent. I have to admit on the way out, it wasn't a particularly enjoyable flight. There was something in the air and everyone was sneezing. I recommend taking some antihistamines and avoiding the alcohol (contains histamine) if you are a hayfever sufferer or sensitive to allergies.
- All the lounges on this trip were average. The LHR lounge was unremarkable. The lounge in MNL is limited mostly to local food. I touched the pastries and they were ok. The HKG lounge is run by Hong Kong Airlines and was very limited. They had sandwiches and a few other bits.
- I noticed when adding FF number on check-in that the FF number kept slipping and it didn't return this info for the return leg. It's going to be a hassle chasing up these miles.

Overall, I was very satisfied with Philippines Airlines.
The new A350 is a great aircraft and the seats were very comfortable. The food was really good the crew on the return flight was also excellent. All in all great.

Unfortunately I had a little thing on the return flight. My return flight from Manila to London on 4 May 2019 was unfortunately delayed and 3-5 hours later the flight was cancelled completely. (Since in LHR from 0.15 am to 6 am no airplanes are allowed to land the flight had to be cancelled.) Thus I missed my connecting flight in London. LHR - Frankfurt on 5.05.2019 6.30 AM. And I had to book a flight 8 hours later, because I had to book at such short notice, the one way flight ( 90min) / in Y) LHR-FRA cost me 500 € :-) :-).
The original - one way- flight with Lufthansa was 100 €.

My question to you is: can I claim the damage I suffered from the Philippine Airlines delay? And if so..... how? And with what prospect of success?!.

In the Manilla Lounge I was told to contact [email protected] to get the extra expenses back from Philippine Airlines. But I have my doubts! What advice would you give me? Air Passenger Rights Ordinance 261/2004 do not apply. Thanks to all....

That's a shame! I am afraid they don't owe you anything as the bookings were seperate. Do contact them though - no harm in trying. It sucks that EU261 doesn't apply this way - the passengers on the cancelled flight on the 4th leaving LHR will be nicely compensated.

I have an unused wifi code that can be used onboard the LHR/MNL/LHR flights.

I had already paid for access before the crew handed these out.

Please send me a message if you would like it! I would be happy to send you the code.

As I found out you still have to go to the transfer desk on arrival even with an overnight stop. Just tell them you connecting to HKG the next day, they will either give you a very simple form to fill in or fill in in for you with your arrival and onward flight details, give that, your boarding passes and passport to the border man or lady at the desk just behind you.

Thanks for the heads up. So I will have to go there even if I have the paper boarding pass for the onward travel?

After arriving LHR on BA I went to the service centre in T3 and the agent printed all four boarding passes, even though my return flights isn't until the 19th. Both me and the agent were quite suprised that he was able to do this.

Just had the traditional dish in the Aspire lounge now. It was quite nice.

When my flight was cancelled some passengers were not allowed to stay overnight in Manila. There were difficulties because these passengers didt not have a VISA for the Philippines. They had to wait in the airport. UK / USA / German Passport was OK to stay in a hotel in Manila.
