Even better, you can route through EWR so you can do LAX-EWR for $56 and skip out on the EWR-FLL segment.

I have one on hold, with a quick overnight turn in FLL (figured I'd rent a car and go to Miami for a nice dinner) and on the return I'm just going to do SDC at EWR to extend for a day or two

Update I just ticketed it

Hope the SDC works for you. EWR-LAX has pretty high loads and I'm sure the fare class for this $56 fare is very low (G maybe?)

I’m curious, how do people find these fares in the first place. Is it just luck?

b) kayak fare alerts i've set up to various cities
c) theflightdeal.com newsletter
d) this page on united: https://flights.united.com/en-us/fli...om-los-angeles
e) this page on hopper.com: Fare Sales and Flight Deals from Los Angeles, California - Hopper

e) is where I found the LAX-FLL deal

Excellent. Thanks. I’ll start looking too. I’ve decided to give up on buying first class tickets all the time. I’m going to go for lifetime miles instead. I read a thread on the UA forum (Lemonade from lemons) on getting two million miles in a few years. It sounds like a plan!
