Back on Canadian soil, this time with a dump of snow

I was in the 2nd biz cabin on my NRT-SFO segment. 44 seats, I counted 18 or so pax. I sat in 16K, and no one was seated in adjacent seats around me. 1st biz cabin had 8 seats, no clue how many pax there were in that cabin. I counted 7 to 8 diff FAs attending to our needs in my cabin. They didn't even use the galley/kitchen behind me at all for food and beverages storage/prep.

A fellow FT in the first cabin told me there were 5 pax in his area.

Centurion lounge at SFO was a zoo. I tried to go into the UA lounge in the international terminal but I was told my UA SFO-YVR F ticket wasn't eligible. I then went to another UA lounge by gate 80, I found it a bit quieter but the food was lacking: chick peas, salads, buns, brownie squares. Nothing exciting. At least the Centurion lounge had chicken.

Flight in YVR to YYC was delayed. During boarding, I overheard there were 29 angry people on standby (and they were lingering around the gate). Think there must have been a cancelled AC flight prior in the day.

On a side note, as I'm going through my receipts, I found a Gold Track Express Arrival ANA slip. Wasn't I supposed to give it back to security when passing through the fast track line?

I don't think they always collect them. I have leftover from ANA and one trip on EK

I've escalated to customer care since according to the fare rules and CoC, a schedule change is a schedule change... I'll keep you posted.
Just an update for those in the same boat. NH Customer Care is playing hardball here stating that the schedule change was only 10 minutes and I agreed to it (?) so there is no way they will refund the $500 fee.

It's too far out to initiate a CC dispute, but there are some clear contractual issues with their response. This isn't in the DOT's jurisdiction either. I'll be sending a demand letter to their LA office this week. And yes, I know this is a mistake fare and they did me a solid initially, but I don't feel I'm in the wrong here, at least with the CoC and fare rules.

I am flying YVR-HND-KUL tomorrow, does anyone have a opinion about bulkhead vs window seat on this aircraft?

Ended up switching to an aisle seat with no seatmate and flew bulkhead window on KUL-HND.
These recliner seats are far from ideal but I was able to sleep on both flights without too much trouble. ANA soft product is stellar.

I disagree. ANA J is quite lackluster. ANA is basically the United of Japan. Champagne in plastic cups on the ground, extremely crowded lounges (especially at HND), pretty average meals. Even Delta serves better Japanese meals on the TYO routes.

JAL is much better, and I think most Japanese think so as well.

hardware yes. even the ANA First crew admited (my gf flew JAL F the same day i flew ANA F and we showed pics to FA. one of which was JL get free wifi but not ANA!) but i feel ANA crew pretty top notch even when compared to JAL. either a younger vibe (not necessarily younger by age) or a modernized touch of japanese service.
As for the lounge the JL lounges can be equally crowded lol (the again, the HND J lounge was actually crowded - but I've also seen the JAL HND lounge equally crowded so nothing surprising there.)

I don't really care about cabin crew service if the food and seats are going to be mediocre. Smiles can only get you so far.

Also, nobody is talking about F here. This is a thread about J.

Given that the fare was upgradable to F with SAUA, I'm not sure that's true.

I flew F on one of the legs of this fare.

i said even the ANA First crew admited [that JAL is better than ANA]
and you can easily upgrade the TPAC route to F if you flew thru SFO/LAX with merely 50k miles (i would have done it both ways if i had the miles, but i only had 25K)

and the rest i'm simply commenting about the rest which you needn't agree nor disagree. and with some sh!tface service good food and isnt gonna get you very far. most of us went to sydney just because, and could have spent 700usd on a few good meals at home (i believe you get 4 main meals on board and at least 2 breakfast/snacks and maybe 2 more, plus whatever else you can put in ur stomach, PLUS lounge in tokyo twice).
OR you spend the 700USD on ground, which is like 75000 yen if not more, which can last quite a while when excluding the alcohol.

So the smiles do matter, esp when compared to the crew on AA who didnt care what a OWE want/needs when i was flying TPAC after this fare. there was quite a bit of good food at every end of the trip, airport and lounge if you find the plane food bad.
you dont care, but it is part of the service which i paid 700usd for. and is fit for commenting here. There are airlines where they charged more and had better food or not, but the crew wanted to throw the food at me. or like on CX they come screaming in communist chinese saying i just served you.

that said, i slept better on this seat than CX's J and F (seat too warm in F); JL KIXLAX vv (slanty but ok), AA (like CX, facing an angle), even in NH C.

interesting... i did not use the security lane because the general queue wasnt long at all, but this is the sign (or this from ANA...) I've been there enough to know (or just think...) flying C wasn't enough.
but oh well.

Priority lanes for security check

First Class customers, ANA Diamond Service members, ANA Platinum Service members, and ANA Super Flyers Card members are able to use priority lanes to pass through the security check. In addition to presenting your boarding passes when using these lanes, ANA Diamond Service and Platinum Service members are asked to present their respective membership status cards while ANA Super Flyers Card members are asked to present their Super Flyers Cards.
The aforementioned customers may be accompanied by one other traveler when using the priority security lanes.

So I can start talking about LX F in LX J threads because I have Senator upgrades?

Or about AA J in AA Y threads because there are SWUs?

You are just rambling at this point.

Pulling DYKWIA on a mistake fare is peak Flyertalk.

i dont see anything wrong with that. its ur choice to do it or not.

or, shall i not talk about LAX-NRT getting me so and so many miles because you decide to fly YVR-HND direct?
the letter J or C isnt even in the title, so this thread is about ANA's fare between vancouver and sydney. upgrades are a part of it. one may or may not have taken it (just like you may or may not have taken the bucket seats - i never did) but it's still part of the fare if you've paid 25000 miles or so.

I feel like a jerk, but I sent a demand letter today requiring adherence to the fare rules and CoC; the first step in a small claims lawsuit I hope I don't have to file. I would have preferred a DOT complaint or chargeback, but neither of those options were available due to the timeframe or routing.
