Need 220,000 UA Miles
I lost my job yesterday. I'm sitting at ~780,000 lifetime United miles and would like to hit 1 million soon, before any changes to the program are made.
Since I have plenty of time now, I thought I'd start hopping aircraft cheaply (5c a mile or less). I'm having trouble finding good routes. I'm based in Denver, but can fly whatever city pairs are best. Any ideas on where I should start looking?
I also need SPG stays, so overnighting at an SPG airport hotel is fine.

Sorry to hear about you losing your job. Why do you want to become a million miler? Doesn't the history of how airlines treat their million milers worry you? Will you get another job that will allow you to travel? Is this the best time to go on mileage runs?

Look at NRT,HND,HKG,SIN from origins other than DEN such as LAX,SFO,NYC,IAH. For example, IAH-ORD-HKG-SFO-DEN-IAH out 8/29 return 8/31 is $634, 17555 miles.

Chain together a few of these. If you don't know how to use google.com/flights, spend a half an hour learning its features.

Unlike the others, above, congratulations on freeing up your schedule. Glad to hear that you're taking this opportunity to see some of the sights and achieve something really worthwhile. Wait... it's UA. Nevermind.

Buy a ticket to LHR and a few of these TG tickets:

(make sure that you select the Q class fare which is around GBP 500 each ticket).

UA DEN-ULN RT for $960 for most of the schedule. It routes via PEK in the outbound and ICN on the inbound. Get the usually piddly UA miles for the money paid.

You are correct.
6am at ORD you want UA Silver status for life ? Also, someone please double check my math but isn't 220,000mi at 5cpm $11,000?
Seeing that you can get Marriott Platinum for about $800 per year and that comes with United Airlines Silver status why not just start staying in Marriotts while you continue to earn UA miles over time?
It just seems like an awful lot of money for very little gain.

@Madone59, actually it is Gold for life. Not worth is unless you plan on a lot of international and use the *G status for lounges/baggage etc.
Lifetime flight miles Status award Annual companion Premier status
One million Premier Gold ✓Yes
Two million Premier Platinum ✓Yes
Three million Premier 1KŪ ✓Yes
Four million United Global ServicesŪ ✓Yes

I'm burning miles in alternate years. So, it is helpful to have *G status. I won't get enough miles this year for Gold, but since I'm 1MM, I'll still have it. (And I do a lot of international flights.)

Thanks for the support. I'll get going on my homework and report back.
I'm tired of the status rat race, so I figured I could solve that problem.
I had a quick Singapore trip on the books when I was worried about PTO. It'll be fun to get out and see new places. Worst case, I was just going to be sitting around watching movies, why not do it in air?
