I have booked on AA for:
(outbound 10/16/2016) TPE-KIX-LAX-SJC
(return 1/25/2017) SJC-LAX-KIX-TPE
both TPE-KIX-LAX are operated by JL
Just for the record, tried to call AA before the flight twice. AA has note this is not changeable. So failed to do any change before the first sector. And while checking-in, of course JL cannot to any change, they always suggest you to call AA if want to do anything. Even called AA again while I flew to LAX, still not able to change anything, even the same day change for domestic ones.
Ultimately, I only took TPE-KIX-LAX, then I dragged my luggages away at LAX after custom so no show for LAX-SJC. After a day, I checked my itinerary on both AA and JL website, it shows
10/16 TPE-KIX
10/16 KIX-LAX
1/25 SJC-LAX-KIX-TPE
My question is my 10/16 LAX-SJC was disappeared and my return trip is still there. Does it mean I still can use the return ticket on 1/25?

Give it a week. If it still remains the same call to verify the ticket is still valid. I would call JAL if you booked on AA 001 stock, no reason to alert AA and JAL can't cancel an AA stock ticket. It probably should have been canceled. When you call them do not tell them you skipped a leg, just verify the future flight details.

Had a schedule change on a JL stock ticket, but could not parlay it into a date change of anything other than +- 1 day. Has anyone had luck this this?

Changed dates for my first US-bound leg (NRT-LAX-SJC-SEA), on first call. Flew those last month.
Tried to move dates for my return to Japan, and was told I ran out of fare credit(?) for flight changes.
Scheduled departure is in two hours, so probs just writing the return off at this point.

I was able to get an EXP agent to change the date of the outbound. (TSA-HND / stop / HND-SFO).
My plan is two-fold: after flying the TSA-HND and spending a few days in Tokyo, I want to insert HND-GMP-HND… and I want to push back my tatl HND-SFO by a few days.
- Any reason why I wouldn't be able to insert the GMP detour - by my reading of the fare rules, it _should_ be allowed on JL metal.
- When rebooking HND-SFO on JL metal, any tricks to get them to book it under the JL code instead of the AA codeshare. My ticket is AA stock.

Some encouraging data points regarding changing dates. Hopefully I'll also be able to change the dates for my trip once I fly my first leg in late November! I'm only +1 on the dates for some of the flights, so hopefully it should be easy.

Seems like those with 131 stock are experiencing great success in changing the dates of their inbound flights, especially after flying the first segment. I want to keep the routing the same, but just want to push out the travel by a few months. I was hoping to do this with JAL at NRT after flying the first segment -- BUT, my ticket was purchased through Orbitz. Even after flying the first segment, will I still have to direct my change request to the OTA? Or will JAL be more willing to reticket then?

as long as your ticket are 131 stock and fly your first sector then JAL will have full control of the ticket and you are good to make all changes you wish
