I am new to flying AA, as I status matched to AS. This is exactly why I booked this through an OTA, I wanted to ticket it, and thought I may need a 24 hour parachute.

This would be a big deal because it seemed as though the actual ticketed reservations were being honored and the only ones that weren't were the 24 hour holds.

Can you point to such reports? The close-in hold itself was only terminated less than a year ago.

I'll see if I can dig that up. I believe US Airways policy does not include a 24 hour risk free cancellation within 7 days of departure and this is simply aligning to that, but I'm not sure.

At [TIME] on [DATE], I made a reservation with American
Airlines for an itinerary with the confirmation number
[CONFIRMATION].

As the DOT mandates, AA gave me the option to hold my
reservation at the quoted fare for 24 hours
without payment (AA does not allow for a 24 hour
cancellation period, the other option the DOT provides in
14 CFR 259.6). Rather than purchase outright, I exercised
my right under 14 CFR 259.6 to hold my fare. You can see
my confirmation email in the attachments ([I attached a PDF of my email confirmation]).

At [TIME] on [DATE], approximately XX hours after I
made my reservation, I attempted to purchase the ticket.
Although my confirmation number was live on the AA
website, there was no option to purchase the ticket. I
was instructed to call AA directly for more information.

At [TIME] on [DATE], approximately XX hours [Ed: Better be less than 24!] after I made my reservation, I called AA to inquire about
purchasing my ticket. I spoke to [REP NAME], a Supervisor
based in [LOCATION], who informed me that AA would not honor
my reservation at the fare offered. She explained that
our conversation would noted in AA's records under my
confirmation number: [CONFIRMATION].

AA has used 14 CFR 259.6 - a consumer protection tool -
to subvert my contractual rights to purchase their
advertised fare. Because AA has opted to provide a 24
hour hold, rather than a 24 hour cancellation policy, I
have limited legal standing in civil court: there was no
purchase. As a result, action by the DOT is my only real
hope for remedying this situation.

Please do not allow AA to flagrantly violate 14 CFR 259.6
without repercussions. Please do not allow them to
leverage 14 CFR 259.6 as a tool to erode their
responsibilities to consumers.

Taking a stand on this issue will provide a strong
statement of support for consumer protection, and 14 CFR
259.6. On the other hand, allowing AA to ignore the
existing regulations will open the playing field for
abuses by AA and other airlines.

I think the issue here is not related to honoring the fare.. but more about not having access to the booking cabin at the time of ticketing. Will defer to the AA ticketing experts on revenue ticket waitlisting.

Just spoke with an AAgent over the phone. I asked if the ticketed fares for D.C. to Beijing would be honored. She said yes, as far as she knows, adding it's the cancelled ones that aren't honored. By cancelled, I presume she meant the ones on 24 hour hold which AA cancelled.

Its the standard auto reply. Everyone gets it I believe. We'll I've gotten it every time I've submitted something via DOT. Except for when my complaint is about issues not touching the US

Any such reports are inaccurate-- AA still offers 24-hour cancellation on booking within seven days.

At time of booking there must not have been fare class availability. I was told it was now available but not willing to change. Upper management has said to only keep tickets as booked and no changes. I did get mine through Orbitz and it is ticketed and in my account.

I was able to change seats. there were no windows on either long haul and now there are plenty.

That happened to me too -- I got Y from ORD-DCA, but it dropped the price from $462 to $406. Totally worth it for a 90 minute RJ flight.

Got the standard form reply from the DOT. Let's see how they decide to handle this. Historically AA has never been the most proactive airline when it comes to issuing press releases and notifications.

My reservation is no longer showing on my AA account. It was there there this morning. I had a ticketed reservation for DCA-PEK round trip with a base fare of $40. Has anyone else's disappeared this morning?

It looks like they just cancelled my DCA-PEK with $20 base fare. It was on my account earlier this morning and is now missing.
