Trying To Make This a Good MR from LAX

Great find but trying to get myself to JFK or IAD from BUR/LAX and still bring this in under 4c/mi all in. Trying for Feb 9th thru 11th. I'm still trying but if anyone has any creative routings to suggest that can get the numbers down, might be fun (for my MQM balance, not my tailbone!).

I'm glad looking for something great is half the fun.

If you arrive at 10:30pm, how do you clear customs and check in for the return flight leaving 2 hours later?

Platinum Line just got me assigned to Economy Comfort for all 4 KLM International legs. Way to go Delta!

THX
You might find it cheaper booked on KLM.com, but I do not know if you earn the same miles. Someone else may be able to shead some light on that.

You don't clear immigration or customs on arrival at CPT.

You go straight from arrival to departure.
The incoming aircraft is the same as the outbound aircraft.
You need an hour at most to transit from arrival to departure.

Read details here http://www.acsa.co.za/home.asp?pid=3721

- Follow the directional signage indicating “International Transfers”
- Relevant airline staff will accompany passengers through process and route
- Boarding passes must be retained for the continuation of journeys where already issued;
- Where no boarding pass was issued, this can be printed at the transfer / transit facility by your airline;
- Hand baggage check may be conducted at the transfer facility by Customs and ACSA’s Aviation Security Officers;
- All visa restricted passport holders require a Transit visa to transit South African airports irrespective of length of transit.
- Follow the directional signage to the international departure lounge for boarding
- Please allow for a minimum connecting time of 1 hour to facilitate all processes

+1^ Thanks for your post/ message!!!

After reading your post, I called the DL PM line, gave the CS agent the KLM record locators for both my MRs and the agent was able to request for and confirm assignment for the EC Seats that I desired/ requested.

Update: I have just logged on to www.klm.com and confirmed that the EC seats have been assigned.

Still debating- long way to sit in coach/Economy Comfort. Any Diamonds experience opups on this route?

As reported in the same thread, it was also available on DeltaVacations.com as a very attractive BOGO package !
Correct. The fare was to end on Dec 8th. And it did appear to be gone. But the fare sale sates were extended.

I did DCA-DTW-AMS-CPT and back. AMS-CPT is long, but there are longer flights. It's doable. DTW-NRT is longer and MSP-NRT is comparable.

It's no worse than going to SIN. In fact South Africa is the new SIN for MRs.
How can one say anything about opups in advance?
An opup for me means nothing for any other traveller. Usual opup rules apply.
Being a diamond increases your chances of an opup, but ti does not create opup opportunity,

Booked through the DL website:
1/16 JFK-AMS KL644
1/18 AMS-CPT KL597
1/19 CPT-JNB KL3766
1/19 JNB-AMS KL592
1/20 AMS-JFK KL641

19657 miles for $782ai 3.98cpm

I don't live near NYC though so I also booked a separate 10k mile roundabout way to get there that takes my average for the trip up to around 5cpm.

1/15 BNA-ATL DL1066
1/15 ATL-LAX DL1855
1/15 LAX-ATL DL2354
1/16 ATL-JFK DL2250
1/20 JFK-LAX DL2263
1/21 LAX-ATL DL2154
1/21 ATL-BNA DL1676

10073 miles for $710ai 7.05cpm

1 week, almost 30k miles...not too bad I think
You are staying overnight in AMS? I am doing DAC-MSP-CPT on the 16th/17th and back on the 23rd.

.. saw friday flights ex-JFK with an overnight in AMS on outbound leg
.. two nights in CPT seem more attractive to me than two nights at IAD ..
From what I have read, JNB is not a friendly city. Be watchful in JNB.
