Red face Eastbound And Down….The 24,000 Mile Cross-Country MR

Pros:
A 24,000+ mile cross-country trip continually flying eastward from Oregon to Maine.
Might even get you in the Guinness Book of Records.

Cons:
The CPM is through the roof at $0.23 a mile.
Your spouse may leave you.
Your boss won’t give you three weeks off anyway.
Your kids will forget about you.
The fare is only a one-way.

But if none of that bothers you, how about giving this one a go?

MFR-PDX-SFO-SEA-OAK-GEG-LAS-MSO-PHX-SLC-TUS-ABQ-ELP-DEN-RAP-DFW-OMA-IAH-MSP-STL-MSY-ORD-PNS-ATL-FNT-DTW-TPA-CLE-RSW-CLT-MIA-PIT-FLL-IAG-MYR-DCA-SYR-PHL-HPN-LEB-BOS-PQI

Every arrival is east of the departure and all have nonstop flights on the dates below. It priced out at around $7k, but comes down to $6k with some throwaway ticketing. An intrepid traveler could probable shave a few days off, and save a few dollars more!

Check out this 24,404 mile routing on the Great Circle Mapper - Eastbound And Down MR. Can anyone else tweak it to hit the 25k mark without flying backwards? I could have added in a couple of extra stops (like MSY-MEM-ORD), but they added less than 20 extra miles. And I now know that PIT is east of MIA but west of FLL.

No, I don't have too much time on my hands.
Yes, I know some flights won’t earn miles.
Yes, I’d love to do it!
No, I probably won’t do it.
But could I be talked into it? Hmmmmmm….

Honestly, it would be for the adventure more than the miles. Although I would fly UA whenever possible. Still like to find a way to tweak it up to 25k....that's such a nice round number!

Try the following substitutions.

T 2/28 - SEA-OAK AS - OAK-RNO WN - RNO-LAX WN
W 2/29 - LAX-BOI UA - BOI-LAS WN
adds 236 miles.

S 3/10 - ORD-BHM UA - BHM-BNA WN
S 3/11 - BNA-ECP WN - ECP-ATL DL - ATL-FNT FL
adds 335 miles.

S 3/18 - PHL-ALB US - ALB-JFK DL - JFK-BOS DL
adds 129 miles.
Add a day in BOS or finish a day earlier.

Using the same calculator as your original, this comes to 25,104 miles. I checked schedules for all the days where I made changes and they all work with 3 hours or more between flights.

home92345,

Great first post and welcome to FlyerTalk. That's exactly what I was looking for! I figured there had to be a way to work LAX in there somehow.

Thanks!
