First Timer: MR

Looking at doing a MR or two so i can complete my Plat challenge.

I am based out of DFW, so i was thinking DFW-SFO-DFW so i can get the DEQM.

My questions: If the flight get DEQM, does that translate into DEQP? (only because i am doing a challenge, which as you know is points based)

Also how do I calculate CPM? R/T I am looking at $238, with DEQM I am at 2929mi on a Deep Discount Fare. Which I think is 8CPM, which is really not that good.

How do you guys find these 4cpm fares?

Due to my job I am basically restricted to weekend MRs.

Well i have a DFW-BOS rt for next week on a discount fare, so i should net, 3100pts from that trip. I have until October 15th to get the other 6900.

No I am not a Gold now.

check the fare code to be sure you get 1 pt/mi....i have had some luck getting a planned .5 pt/mi to a 1 pt/mi fare at a decent price by booking w/an agent & paying the agent fee....hopefully, sept will have lower fares....good luck...

the sfo fare is ~16/17 cents/pt....does the bos 1 pt/mi fare next week beat it?...if so, that becomes a better choice than sfo....

some not to rough math....if a $250 transcon fare shows up this year, jfk-sfo-jfk would be 2500 pts at 10 cents/pt....3 trips is $750, which is probably the least cost...if you happened to be in ny or ca to start...shorter trips are likely to be higher.....to compare, dfw-fll/mia-dfw would have to be ~$100 for 10 c/pt...

absent another lga trip occurring, i would look for a 3500+ mi each way at 1 pt/mi or something like dfw-fra-dfw w/1 way @ 1 pt/mi & other @ .5....

find the trip w/a decent price, call aa & ask what the 1 pt fare would be & book if it fits....i think the agent fee is $30, but may have gone up....

Yea i was definitely considering a internation itenerary just because im usually in DFW or ORD so even a trip to BOS/NYC or SFO doesnt get me real far....especially on .5/mi fare class.

As for the Boston trip next week, that is for work and is paid for, so no harm no foul there

I think i should be able to get a good fare sale after Aug 15th or so, when vacationers go away.

i agree w/holding off....will you pick up anything to from ord?...

theres a $1050 dfw-bru 9/3-4, but don't know what it would take to get 1 way to 1 pt/mi...

I actually called them when I started the PLAT challenge (a week or 2 ago) and asked them to bump me to GLD since I paid for the PLT challenge. They did, no questions asked and re-booked all of my flights as GLD status. The first flight I took didn't have the priority access on the boarding pass but everything is fine now.

I as well was looking to get into this whole MR thing but I don't think I will need to. I fly DFW-LAS twice a week and even at .5 that is still 1000ish EQP a week. I'm at 4,223 EQP and have till October 15th so I need about 6 more trips. I might consider trying out a MR if it gets me to EXEC PLAT but even then I don't think being EXEC PLAT will matter flying out of DFW to LAS and I don't fly internationally. The flight I fly is pretty much always packed anyways. Would like an Elite's perspective on this if it would be worth it!
