OK, FT fans......What airline has the best FF program AMERICAN AIRLINES or UNITED AIRLINES...did the merger help UA or is AA the best FF program hands down??
Which company gives the best service? The seats on UA are much more comfortable than AA seats..the 757 for AA suck!!! Sound off FT fans...I need to pick a best airline for my bucks for 2011!!!!
HELP HELP HELP!!!
as of 11/21/10
R the upgrades the same??? UA members should respond to this post because they have experienced the program on UA. Does UA offer upgrades to all it's elite members like AA does for EX PLT members?

Sorry about my sarcastic response, but the other two replies do provide very good, constructive advice. Think about the items rubenj mentioned that it depends on, as well as whether you will be flying economy or business; whether your priority is scoring upgrades, award travel or other goals; how many miles per year you anticipate traveling; and other issues that, as axepine00 suggested, you can find by searching through various discussions here. Then come back with that more specific information and you might get some good help here. Or perhaps the search itself will provide the answers. Or perhaps you'll find that, for you, it depends.

My opinions.
AA- better food in premium cabin / wi-fi / upgrade chances (no 2-class F cabin with less than 16 seats)
UA - better seats, E+, more destinations worldwide.
at LAX either of them will work for you, I'd base it on where you are going and your flexibility. For example, AA offers the most frequencies to JFK from LAX

Thanks for the feedback demkr.......I know that there r some hardcore travelers here......, but with this merger between UA-CO...Im thinking UA-CO may have the advantage..domestic travel I know AA treats the customers well, but they dont have a market like UA has for international travel.
I'm am only more familiar with AA's program...I wasnt sure that UA provided the same services or better that's why I sent this blog and went to the EXPERTS on FT.
I have the same questions for HILTON vs SPG???

It depends Whats important to you? Most of my travel $$$ come out of my own pocket. I want to sit in premium cabins for the lowest cost. I have taken over 40 international AA flights over the past 3 + years and have only missed 1 (ONE) Y to J upgrade. Also, I have had great success redeeming AA miles for F class travel on BA, CX, and QF. (My points are not intended to degrade UA, as I dont have any experience with them, but for me, AA is hard (impossible) to beat. YMMV.

Not true. One program is not intrinsically any better than the other. One may be better for one person, and the other is better for someone else.
Our experience is nearly identical to SafeFlyer, but only if you swap UA and AA. So, since they have each offered identical benefits to different people, which is better?
If you're not prepared to accept all answers to your question, it's better not to ask.

Why not seed the discussion of what's more important to you? and what you care about?
Just to help you out, I prefer AA because having flown UA, I find the people on UA to be less friendly. I like the experience of not being snapped at.
SWUs on UA can't be used on the cheapest fare. I purchase tickets with my own personal hard-earned (or not hard-earned
) money, so I want to be able to upgrade on the lowest fare.I don't care if UA/CO have a bigger network, because I can accommodate with the other OW partners. I'll just fly to parts that they fly to. I'm not THAT picky. Traveling is fun for me.

It's an individual choice. I "grew" up with American, i.e. I was forced to fly it when I started working as a consultant at age 23. Now I'm 27 and have been EXP for the past 4 years. I'm all AA till I die or till they file for bankruptcy, which will likely happen first. AA works extremely well for me, I love their 8 SWU and the fact that any international fare is upgradeable. I'm sure UA would have been as great a program for me if I started off with them 4 years ago.

Plus, it may be worthwhile to wait a year and see how the United/Continental merger pans out.
Overall, a lot depends on where you fly or where you'd like to fly.

@n8onUA
The info you gave is great..but does UA give unlimited upgrades for 1K members like AA does for EX PLT members??
Or does UA give unlimited upgrades to all it's elite members???
Then u have the E500 mile upgrade certificates???? Do both airlines offer the same type of service....comments from Elite UA members will b appreciated bcuz they are experiencing what I do on AA as an EX PLT member!!
