I'm on one tomorrow for 6944 miles for $214.

I could have squeezed a few more out, but I didn't feel like it.

Last November/December $230 for IND-LAX via the Pacific Northwest outbound and the Deep South inbound. 7441 base miles. $0.031 per EQM; not the best MR ever but not bad either.

Though there are two disclaimers:

1) It wasn't a true MR; I had business and personal stuff in Southern CA, so there was over a week between the outbound and return. (On the other hand, my work paid for the ticket though they were a little confused by the giant pile of boarding passes I submitted.)

2) The inbound routing was not my idea but a helpful suggestion from Keithguy.

Not quite a MR -- but...

LAX-MSP-IAH-MCO-MEM-DTW-MHT-DTW-BNA-DTW-MSP-LAX. Great Circle Mapper says 8,913 miles.

On a business trip that was LAX-MHT. Total price was $407.48, which was only like 20% higher than the more direct routing. The more direct route would have given me 5,177 miles.

So I netted a 72% increase in miles earned.

Not a MR, but lots of miles/$

Back in the days before FF programs and when airlines still had unlimited flights for x dollars, I think I paid USAir about $150 for:
MSP-PIT-LGA-PIT-BOS-PIT-MSY-PIT-DCA-PIT-TYS-PIT-MSP. About 6100 miles. And I think my boss paid for it because the first leg was going to a conference. LGA-BOS may have been direct, but I know I saw a lot of PIT on that trip.

In October 6 and 7 of 2001, B747-437 and I each earned ~10,000 base miles on DL for $88.00 each during a double base miles promotion. ^

First weekend in December I'm doing the following:

TPA-DFW-SEA-PHX-SEA-DFW-ORD-DFW-SEA-PHX-SEA-ORD-MIA-TPA

Circle Mapper says 15060 base miles.

2 tickets = ~$325

True MR, I only get a overnight hotel break in PHX after the first 9 segments.

Hyatt through Priceline = $35 + taxes and fees

Never done anything like this before and I probably will never do it again. But that's what I need to make EXP again with AA, so sacrifices will have to be made.

What helps is that 9 segments are on AA, so hopefully my free upgrades clear. The other 4 are AS, so back of the bus.

Miami to Anchorage $312+ NW = 8,000 + miles

NW is showing a fare of about $312 plus tax for MIA-ANC. Without any planning that is over 8,000 base miles, and you probably could tweak a few more miles out of it. The fare works in reverse, too. One day stay required. Domestic upgrade rules apply (unlike Hawaii trips).

A couple of years ago, my family and I traveled to Alaska from Detroit on CO (DTW-IAH-ANC r/t) and received 8,682 EQMs for around $237/ticket including taxes. Those were the good old days when you got 100% on CO being a NW flyer.

LAX-EWR-MIA on CO for $97 all in during summer 2001.

Although I don't fly CO, I bought a ticket LAX-EWR-MIA for $97 all in. Over 7K base miles. Alot of FTers were buying many of these tickets & doing mileage runs!

What made it better was I got 2 bumps on the trip and got put in Business First on the outbound.

I traded one of my CO bumps for a UA voucher for a SIN trip & booked another CO trip using the other voucher. Guess what? Got bumped on the other CO trip!

Over 7K base miles & alot of flying for $97. ^

How did you book this? Which two tickets did you buy, or to put it another way, how did you group the cities into two tickets?

With Aa's new interna'l upgrade fees, it looks like my MR's next year will have to swing domestic, so I'm trying to improve my skills at that. Thanks!

It wasn't me. A regular MR poster e-mailed me with this suggestion.

Apparently AA was matching somebodies fares in/out PHX. I get an e-mail with suggestion that Expedia is showing these ridiculously low fares. After few more guidance e-mails, I was able to put all this together on Expedia.

Ticket 1 - TPA-DFW-SEA-PHX/////PHX-SEA-ORD-MIA-TPA
and inbetween that
Ticket 2 - PHX-SEA-DFW-ORD-DFW-SEA-PHX

TPA-PHX was around $179 all in
PHX-ORD - either $139 or $149 (I really don't remember)

We tried AA.com but it would not work, so I had to settle for no booking bonus. I'm really doing this for the status miles, so I could live without the 2K booking bonus. The ex-PHX fares disappeared next day.
