Why do I miss these?
We need an early warning system in place. Someone to do a mass email when one of these pops up. I would subscribe.

Heads up for those who booked the YHZ/HNL mileage runs. For my mid-October trip I noticed that one of my segments BOS-YHZ disappeared when I checked my itinerary on-line. I called UA and it turns out the flight was cancelled and no one from UA called me. I was originally booked HNL-SFO-BOS-YHZ-YYZ-ORD-HNL. I requested to be booked BOS-YYZ instead and they did it with no problem. I wonder if I can get the miles from the original routing?
Luckily, my August run is still intact.

A tad out of the way for me, plus I'm sorta kinda collecting CO miles, but I have a feeling this will run in infamy @ la the Iceland fare ..... unless UAL does declare banrupcy, in which case it will still live on in infamy.

Don't get excited - this is not a current fare!
Now that I have completed the two trips I booked on this fare from last June, here is the report on the strange way it turned out.
Some of you will remember that this YHZ (Halifax, Nova Scotia) to HNL fare was available for a few hours last June 1. The original routing was YHZ-BOS-SFO-HNL-ORD-YYZ-YHZ. Fare class was H so upgrading was possible. I picked up one in February for a weekend with Mrs. OhCanada and another over Easter for the two of us plus little Miss OhCanada.
Since we are in YYZ, we would have had to get one-way tickets to YHZ to start the trip and then just stop in YYZ on the way back and abandon the YYZ-YHZ segment.
As TropicalFlyer noted back in August, the YHZ-BOS route was subsequently cancelled or changed and the new outbound routing I was sent was YHZ-YYZ-LAX-HNL. All except LAX-HNL were on AC rather than UA, which created a problem for upgrading, 100% points bonus, etc. So I called UA and asked why they didn't re-route through YYZ and ORD to UA1 direct ORD-HNL. They said they couldn't get us from YHZ to ORD early enough to get UA1, so of course I said why not remove the YHZ-YYZ portion and start the trip in YYZ, and voila! I now had a C$250 fare YYZ-ORD-HNL return! Less miles than the original routing, but much better for a short vacation trip and at about one-quarter of the lowest YYZ-HNL fare, especially in high season over Easter and March Break. ^
This fare has to go down as one of the best in the last year for those that could take advantage of it. Even with the much-shortened itinerary we ended up with, it's about 2 cents/EQM and we upgraded the return on the HNL-ORD red-eye. I hope we will see more such deals in the future, although I doubt it. My only regret is that I didn't book more of them while they were available!

I normally assume that if there are seven pages of responses, the first two are about the fare and the last five are about the fight to get it honored. So in this case it snuck in under the 2-page rule and you had me going for a minute until I checked the date of the post.
