YEG - WAS $192 on CO

This one is for the Alberta mileage runners, tcook052 and YYCOllie (if you are willing to bus/drive up to YEG)

YEG-WAS (also works for WAS-YEG) $192 USD on CO
- Booked in V class
- Good for Mon-Thurs any time, Sat. after 12pm departures
- 2 day min stay
- Travel till Dec. 18

For $27 more each way, the time restrictions can be waived (i.e. Sat morning departure and Monday return will be $219 plus taxes; Sat morning departure with the Sunday after return will be $246 plus taxes).

Depending on flight schedules, doable routings include: YEG-SEA-IAH-WAS or YEG-MSP-IAH-MEM-DCA. On the return, something like WAS-CLE-IAH-SEA-YEG or WAS-DTW-CLE-IAH-MSP-YEG.

Figure in about $100 USD in taxes so you are looking at a final price of about $450 CDN.

Thanks for the tip Keith. And I could save another USD 25.00 by using my discount coupon from the Privilege Pack I bought earlier this year, mainly to pick up the 7500 OP miles.

I hope this fare is loaded in my CRS when I get to work, 'cause the hard copy certificate would have to mean a paper ticket. Will check Mon. a.m.

Nuts,Keith. Just was re-reading the cetificate in front of me and says, in fine print, travel must be on CO only. So with codeshare options out, I guess that means I can't use the bleepin thing. Urgh!!

But, I could score the 2,000 OP miles bonus for booking that MR on the new CO website, seeing as I can't use the certificate anyway.
So, good news-bad news kinda thing.

You couldn't force me to goto YEG even if you put me on a bus that earned AC SE status, keithguy...

Okay, maybe SE. Thanks for looking out for us Albertans.

This is an interesting itinerary. I tried doing availabilities in Apollo and found only 1 maximum mileage routing tht would get you there in 1 day. And in the process, I learned something valuable.

First, here is the fare display:
FARES LAST UPDATED 09SEP 10:05 AM
‡$DYEGDCA01OCT/B
YEA-WAS DEPART 01OCT
ADULT/PRIVATE FARES FOR [MY OFFICE]
CMP/SEN/VUS FARES ALSO EXIST

CAD FARE MIN/ XL TVL DATES
CX FARE BASIS AP MAX FE FIRST/LAST
1 CO 283.00R VUR72SIP 07Š 02/30 ŠŠ -/18DECC
2 CO 367.00R VVR72SIP 07Š 02/30 ŠŠ -/18DECC
3 CO 433.00R BVR72SIP 07Š 02/30 ŠŠ -/18DECC
[The S with the accent mark over it appears as a 'Cross of Lorraine' in Galileo and usually implies a reservation to ticketing condition or is an advice to search the rule for a deviant condition.]

The YEG-SEA flight is operated by AS and showed as such when I requested availability.
*** CONTINENTAL AIRLINES ***
01OCT-TUE- ALTERNATE SERVICE
1AS2409* Y4 S4 B4 M4 H4 YEGSEA 700A 745A F28 0 T145

2AS2405* Y4 S4 B4 M4 H4 YEGSEA 107P 149P F28 0 T142
Q4 L4 V4 K4 G4
T4 W4
To get the CO flight number, it muct appear in combination with a connection to a flight with a real CO flight number. I then asked [in CO link] for availability YEG-IAH, but could not get the flight needed as the only single connections shown were via MSP [NW codeshare]. I found it by asking for MEM:
*** CONTINENTAL AIRLINES ***
01OCT-TUE- ALTERNATE SERVICE
1CO8349* Y4 H4 K4 B4 V4 YEGSEA 700A 742A F28 0 G208

K9 B9 V9 Q9 T4 BBBBB
E0 G0 M0 BBB
So I played with that, but because the last flight IAH-WAS leaves at 1900, couldn't get same day connections.
BUT I NEEDED THAT FIRST FLIGHT!
Normally if you book 2 flights at once with CO, you are not allowed to cancel one and keep the other for yield management concerns. To enforce this, they use something called 'marriage technology' which makes you keep or cancel both at once - married flights have an identical digit to the right of their line on the itinerary. There were no digits on this connection, so I was able to cancel SEA-MEM, probably because these flights weren't on pure CO metal. But look at the married digits on segments 2 and 3. Here is the itin:

1 CO8349V 01OCT YEGSEA SS1 700A 742A * TU

I don't know if this helps or not, but through bushwacking on Expedia.com and continental.com, on YEG-IAH, the connection through SEA would only show up on Saturdays while IAH-SEA-YEG shows up everyday of the week.

Furthermore, the CO connection given was CO8349 (arrives at 0742) but the SEA-IAH was CO658 (DEP 1100, ARR 1700).

A call to CO International Reservations saids that the minimum connection time in SEA would be 90 minutes (they said it's considered international-domestic even though you pre-clear customs in YEG, I believe).
