AM - LAX-GRU - $1243 r/t - Premium Economy

Aeromexico - Los Angeles (LAX) to Sao Paulo, Brazil (GRU) - $1243 roundtrip in "Premium Economy" or more specifically what Aeromexico calls "AM Plus". Aeromexico does not have a true premium economy cabin just economy with extra legroom that they file fares and call premium economy, so this deal is being placed with the economy flights, but premium economy is still being mentioned because Delta awards extra MQD's for the higher fare code.

Ticket must be issued by March 31, 2024 for travel now to September 30, 2024, but you need to ticket 28 days in advance, so in reality you won't be flying until April. Your trip must be completed by that September date. No minimum stay - you can return home the same-day you arrive. A stopover is a massive $250! This fare is interesting because it has a senior citizen discount.

The quickest and shortest route is LAX-MEX-GRU-MEX-LAX at 12332 miles roundtrip, but the longest route with seats available in the W fare code is LAX-GDL-MEX-GRU-MEX-GDL-LAX at 12840 miles roundtrip.

Crediting to Delta
2568 MQD (Cost per MQD - 48.403 cents USD)
16050 SkyMiles

Crediting to Flying Blue
34 XP (Cost per XP - A Whopping $36.56!)

Crediting to Virgin Atlantic
180 Tier Points (Cost per TP - $6.91 USD - very high!)

* Calculations based on LAX-GDL-MEX-GRU roundtrip for $1243 USD

Unfortunately, as alluded to in the first post, Aeromexico has a "false premium economy" on every aircraft. It's economy with extra legroom marketed as premium economy, similar to what Delta does on all their domestic US flights. It's actually economy and credits as economy to everybody except Delta.

LAX-GDL is Medium - 5XP
GDL-MEX is Domestic - 2XP
MEX-GRU is Long 2 - 10XP

Total = 17 XP for a one-way flight

Roundtrip would be 17 x 2 or 34 XP

I miss the days when AM regularly had J sales fares to deep South America (e.g. GRU, SCL) for the same price as this, or well sub $1K to northern SA destinations like LIM.

Yes, before COVID, but it was not even long ago. I was in GRU during the month of February 2020, but ticket could have been for later months (although then may not have been flownable due to various restrictions).

I agree! I paid less than $800 roundtrip to fly Aeromexico from JFK to Santiago, Chile in business a few years ago.

You can now book this from San Francisco too for $1255 roundtrip. You'll fly an extra 668 miles and receive an additional 133 MQD's.
