AC - OGG-YVR-YYC - $274 Roundtrip - 1238 PQP

For those of you in Hawaii trying to maintain status with United MileagePlus, here's an opportunity to earn PQP's at a reasonable price. At the beginning of June you can fly Air Canada from Kahului (OGG) to Calgary (YYC) with a connection in Vancouver (YVR) for $274 roundtrip. On a few of those dates, you can book an itinerary with an immediate return to make this a mileage run for $274-$305.

However, the cheapest ticket is actually the worst value for this mileage run. These tickets all book into the G fare code and Air Canada's Basic Fare earns 25% mileage in MileagePlus. The Standard, Flex, and Comfort fares, while more expensive, will award higher mileage for a small increment in price! The breakdown is posted below. The best deal is to choose the Comfort option, but that's also the most expensive, so it's up to you!

One last thing - It may be cheaper to book two one-way tickets to accomplish this run. Google Flights will display the price for separate tickets and one ticket, if you choose to book that way.

You can increase mileage by adding an additional connection in each direction for a similar cost, for example - OGG-YVR-YEG-YYC-YEG-YVR-OGG

75% - Flex - $232 (91.7355% increase)
100% - Comfort - $297 (145.4545% increase)

YYC-YVR-OGG
25% - Basic - $151
50% - Standard - $170 (12.5828% increase)
75% - Flex - $234 (54.9669% increase)

After looking at what United awards members for Air Canada flights some more, I'm guessing my calculation for the "Standard" fare above is wrong. It's an overestimate. United awards 25% mileage for the G fare code on domestic Canadian flights when you choose the Standard fare. That probably means you'll receive 50% mileage for OGG-YVR, but only 25% mileage for YVR-YYC.

The Basic, Flex, and Comfort calculations should ask be correct!
