This is a neat trick to filter basic economy fares, but it only works for UA. AS and DL, for example, are two of the most aggressive assessors (also B6); their non-BE fares can only be shown after click through to the fare summary.
AA, to its credit, has the least number of BE fares out of the legacies.
There were a lot of fares ex-FLL for much cheaper than $255 just a few months ago, mostly on AS (FLL-LAX and FLL-SEA). I flew the former direct turn for $128 roundtrip (non-BE), and got upgraded to F both ways. 1Q was so good for flying!
