UA EWR/IAD to PVG/CTU $500, for 19K PQM

EWR-SFO-CTU or EWR-NRT-CTU (NRT-CTU on ANA) for $440 or a few dollars more and approximately 19K PQM. If on all UA flights, there will be two full days at Chengdu. There are a few dates this year and a lot of dates between Feb and April, 2019. The bonus is that you can find EWR-SFO on 787-10 on some dates (grab Premium economy seats with Gold+ status for free.).

Credit goes to the flight deal.

Kxmu, once again I thank you. I was able to na b 2 RTs all on UA metal, thereby able to use a large ecert. And, I am still benefiting from your $303 China informative postings. Now, looking for some other CTU itineraries for April 19. Any available 2 nights that you can quote from the top of your head?

Also available out of LGA, and while I didn't explicitly look up the fare rules, appears to have zero advance purchase restriction.

The deal is gone, I guess! I have three bookings, Mar. 2-5 (CTU-NRT on ANA), 23-27 and Apr. 29-May 3. I may cancel the second one. We might be able to meet on one of these flights.

Edit: paid $120 (net was $70) to change EWR-CTU to IAD-CTU. Both are now $395.

Is CTU a Transit Without Visa city, if I were to transfer from there to say, Hong Kong or Japan?

Yes it is. Most of the major cities are now, the biggest remaining outlier is SZX unfortunately.

Chengdu is a pretty cool place by the way, worth staying at least a full day to visit the Panda Sanctuary and enjoy some amazing Sichuan food.

I thoroughly enjoyed Chengdu and would gladly go back someday. I took UA and the flight was half empty.

I really hope this deal returns. I am tired of PEK and PVG.

Anything similar to this? I need another 23K PQM to reach 1K, and I've spent over $12K... I need something cheap lol.

FYI -- just found RTs from EWR-SFO-CTU for some dates in March for $609. Looks like the deal isn't done yet! It is a full week though -- 5 days in Chengdu, not two.
