Can you provide a link to GF? I can't see the same routing that you found and definitely not at that price.

Is it available on the Island Hopper (UA 153/154?)

I was trying to price on May 11 departure but I can't get it for the same price. FYI westbound leaves at 0730 so you would need to be in HNL by Thursday night or take a semi redeye from the west coast.

I did my run from RIC

The United fare is available from many cities. My run started from RIC. ORF and DCA fares are in the $600s. The trick is to use multiple destination search on Google flight using GUM as a stopover. I arrived at MNL in the morning and left the next evening. My hotel cost was $26 (hometown hotel). Taxi was cheap, but you needed to bargain. For example, I spent $4 for a trip from PNR EDSA station to Manila Chinese cemetery. Airport to my hotel on Uber was less than $2.5. But be careful with thieves. The admission fees to Port Santiago were than $1.5. So, you should make a short visit instead of a pure run. I got upgrades with a GPU and RPU for all flights other than GUM-HNL.1K status helped! RIC-EWR-NRT-GUM-MNL was on W fare. But the total fare was about $900.

dgdevil Mar 9, 2017 7:51 pm

Alas it seems to be about $601 from LAX via HNL and GUM. Not the end of the world. I might give it a shot, but that HNL-GUM leg is a killer.

P.S. - It's $551 with dates of May 8 and May 10.

What dates?

pnutmnms123 Mar 16, 2017 10:30 am

This is my first time attempting to do a mileage run. Is it possible to still do this for 3/18-19? I can't find the deal anymore on google flights. Also, is there another thread for me to checkout what the abbreviations/acronyms mean when I'm reading threads? TIA

thejaredhuang Mar 16, 2017 12:15 pm

Has anyone done the 1hr connection at MNL?

Welcome to the forum! Lots to learn here, for sure! I'm still struggling with all of it. Here's a link to the glossary to look up all the terms: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/glossary.php

Yes. Use UA transfer desk and not flight to Palau.

Is this deal dead? I'm trying to find this from Washington, DCA or IAD or BWI all are fine. Flexible on dates as well.

Great find, thanks OP!

I'm not finding any flights that are all on UA metal, but there are some UA/NH flights. Here are some options from EWR, or here is one from LAX.

Thank you - takes me direct EWR HNL instead of EWR-IAH-HNL.... total mileage goes under 20,000. Still good for $600.

How about this? 21388 miles for $604 (2.8cpm)

Hmm, now that I found that, I may have to look into doing that! haha

Make sure to post what you find...I may be interested in doing something like that (even though I'd have to position myself in/out of EWR). ^

Not dead. I am seeing routings via LAX/SFO-NRT for $599 through 11/21. UA metal to/from NRT & ANA is a great airline! I am (still) not seeing anything via the Island Hopper?

I've tried many times to get the DEN->MNL version of this to work on the island hopper, but the cost has always jumped up.

thejaredhuang Apr 3, 2017 4:27 pm

Whenever I try Island Hopper its $500 more than HNL-GUM straight. There have been multiple reports of people SDC'ing onto it.

I bit the bullet and booked a round trip DEN-MNL ticket in May (through HNL and GUM on the outgoing as well as incoming leg of the journey). I only have a little over a 1 hour layover in MNL before beginning the flight home again. If I were to try to SDC onto the island hopper (assuming it's available...aren't there only certain days of the week that it flies?), how would that work as far as affecting my return journey home? Would I have to SDC that flight also? Unfortunately, I depart DEN before the 24 hour SDC time before my return trip from MNL, so I'm not sure how that would work. Anyone have any recommendations on how I could make this work? This may be the one/only time I could possibly do the island hopper, so I'd really like to look into it if I could.

Thanks for the help!

Island hopper is only available MWF westbound and it leaves at 7:30AM meaning you need to get to HNL on Sunday/Tuesday/Thursday to do it. IIRC there isn't a flight that leaves from anywhere on the continent that arrives in HNL before 7AM. From what I've read it's not as nice to do it eastbound as most of the flight is during night time.

Island hopper arrives into GUM at the same time as the nonstop from HNL so it shouldn't affect your MNL connections.

Suggest you look at the SDC thread in the UA forum for more details:
https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/unit...7-forward.html

And the Island Hopper thread for more info on it:

My current flight departs DEN on Saturday morning and I return to DEN on Monday morning. Looks like I'm out of luck!

Since you just booked the ticket today, do the cancellation before 24 hours and then rebook so that you synchronize with the hopper schedule.

I actually booked the ticket a few days ago, but I just posted about it here. :)

Ah. You could still change the ticket for $200 and have them move you onto the Hopper dates.

Yeah, I thought about that...but as it is I'm doing this trip without any days off from work, which was the plan from the beginning. Switching to the hopper would require at least 2 days off, it seems. Oh well...maybe next time! ^

One hour layover in MNL

If it's back via GUM, that is probably the same 737, but if there is a way to NOT go through security and stay inside, I never saw it on any of my flights.

Yep, GUM-MNL-GUM...I had read on another FT post (which I can't seem to find now, of course) that it shouldn't be a problem, that there is a United transit desk nearby that can help. Does anyone happen to have a link to that post so that I can read through it again? It was a post that contained transit info for a bunch of different airports (I think it was a sticky somewhere, and it has links in that post to other posts, etc, as sort of a main glossary for airports). Or, does anyone have any more up to date knowledge? ^ :)
