I just booked SFO-NRT-SGN, MNL-NRT-SFO at $426 for 14,863 PQM (2.85 cpm).
Fare rules state availability for Sun - Thu between Aug 21 and Nov 30, as well as Jan 1 through Apr 30. Connecting o/w flights between SGN and MNL are available as low as $94 during the period, making the net cost per mile as low as 3.5 cpm.
*Maybe* it's a candidate for a turn (since Vietnam allows TWOV if you stay in the airport); I didn't check many alternative dates since I'm using it as a good value for a vacation.

No Visa Required for Viet Nam for Many Passports
While US passport holders still require a visa for Viet Nam, holders of many other passports (including UK and Germany which I happened to check) no longer need visas. So depending on what passport(s) you hold, the visa may no longer be an issue.

Nice catch, a PQM run unfortunately not an RDM run.
I am seeing UA and/or ANA metal, with ANA K class earning a basic 25% with MP.

Both are valid routings, ** is Island Hopper
This will be my second time westbound. I couldn't get it to price eastbound, and the 3AM arrival didn't seem too exciting either.

TICKETED AND CONFIRMED. you do have to call in to request the island hopper to make the itinerary work. If leaving from Chicago, you can change weeks but you must leave Chicago on Thursday and manila on a Tuesday.

8/28: HKG to SGN
9/6: MNL to GUM
9/7: GUM to HNL on ISLAND HOPPER
9/7: HNL to ORD
