LH K fares earn nothing in MileagePlus.

True but a UA "K" doesn't equal an LH "K". What does it equal? The flights posted by OP are UA codeshares and need to be converted to LH fare codes.

LH "K" is the lowest fare code while UA has "N" as the lowest revenue fare code.

Which is true, however when it comes to transatlantic travel, fare-classes are aligned 1:1, so a UA-K on LH-metal translates into LH-K. Which means that you earn zero miles on tickets like this.

However it should be possible to find flights on UA's own metal for the same price since the A+-agreement has these fares available on all participating airlines, and then we see the full 17K (minus the tiny WAW-FRA segment) earning on UA, or you could route through either ZRH or BRU to connect to UA-metal flights if the schedule permits that as both LX and SN also earn in K-class on M+ since some recent changes.

Greetings - Dirk

This is a UA ticket. that changes earnings of code shares, as I recall.

Yep I think so too. What matters is this (from UA's website):

"Ticket number starts with "016" and was purchased from United on united.com, through the United Customer Contact Center or at the airport, or from a travel agency or other travel website"

If it is an UA ticket with a ticket number starting with 016, mileage accrual is based on United's revenue-based chart, no matter which metal.

This fare won't generate too many award miles anyway, but better than nothing.

This is true, but only applies to RDM. Since the base price of the ticket (including YQ) is around $600, you'll get 3000 miles as a general member, with increased multipliers depending on status. PQM is still dependent on the fare class when on partner metal; as djohannw mentioned above, K on LH earns zilch.

I second his suggestion to look into flights on UA metal if you want to get full MileagePlus PQM.

mileage runs have now become, status runs, haven't they?

@ o mikros
Right, thanks for clarifying. It has become very complex, this whole mileage thing.

@ privacylawyer
Unfortunately yes. Compared to last year, this year I earned so depressingly few MileagePlus RDM. And as Non-American, most other ways to earn RDM are unavailable.

But, as non-American, you have a waiver on the dollar spend requirement. Earning status might be easier, but getting award miles considerably more difficult.

Regarding the number of PQMs an 016 ticket will get, the new website gives a pretty detailed accounting for each leg as well as the overall. Just go through the process of buying a ticket and check the "details" link. Everyone says not to trust it, but it hasn't been wrong for me (yet) and I suspect since UA includes the PQM info in the confirming email, you've got a leg to stand on.

Yep, it seems to be possible. Adds 12-21 hours to the trip time on the outbound.

Found as low as 667e/$714. I suppose it might be possible to squeeze a few extra miles out with multi-city search rather than using what UA feeds out on the round trip search, but too much effort on a flight I won't take

Works in December too, for anyone needing the status push.
