Canal makes PTY a great MR destination, 3 day stayover requirement kills the deal, unless you had a reason to hang around.

Looks like it works in reverse too. I'm thinking of positioning to PTY, using it as a MR from PTY-ANC/HNL, and then dropping the last MIA-PTY segment.

Since it works both ways, you could nest them if you get the dates to work.

I was able to see the $346 price from BOS without a 3-day minimum, but that's not a good MR. Didn't try other cities, but if the fare rules let me do a overnight, then other cities should work, no?

It should. It prices PTY-ANC with a 1 night stay at $346, $381 if you want 3 connections on the return.

I've got an ORD-DFW-PTY-MIA-LAS routing for $340 on Matrix, but trying to purchase it on AA is running ~405. Considering going to PTY for a week for the hell of it.

Thanks, OP! Ticketed HNL-PHX-MIA-PTY-MIA-LAX-HNL for next November. 12,600 miles for $349, or about 2.7cpm. Hawaii is always a good idea, and I have always wanted to visit Panama City. At this price, and with elite RDM bonus, the miles pay for the flights.

This fare may be disappearing, at least ex-Hawaii. First tried to book through AA.com, which showed the good price but then repriced to over a $1,000 a couple of times at checkout. Then went to Orbitz, saw the good price, but it kept repricing too. Finally, on Google Flights, I found one that I could actually ticket.

Delta seems to now be matching this out of Portland for whatever reason.

eg

4/10-4/14 PDX-ATL-PTY-ATL-PDX $346 7785 4.4 cpm

I have one on hold with AA, but may let it slip. Without US metal the schedules weren't all that great (AS credit).

Also available on UA. Is PTY worth visiting for a week?

Not enough to do here in the city for one week but many things to do in Panamá...

Got 4 tickets earlier today via the routing SEA-DTW-ATL-PTY and back 2/6-2/9 for $350ai. Can't wait.

Thanks for the heads up!
