What dates did you use?
When I tried to book on aa dot com for 2015, it returned with this:

Seems to be all gone now. (It didn't register that hold I had on my flights expired at 23.50 CET rather than GMT and, when I came to purchase them last night at 23.30 GMT the price had gone up to around €800 
)

Had similar fares pop out last week as I looked for a different itinerary.
Did managed to price DUS-MAD-LHR-DFW-SCL/EZE-NYC/MIA-LHR/MAD-DUS/MXP for ~1100$.
And if you skip the first stop in LHR, the new plane on route to SCL and the 788 BA (via JFK) it came down an extra $100 or so. My math gave me a 3.9CPM, IRRC. All that returning to EU latee this year or early 2015.
