I am looking for cheap fares from DEL to SFO in December with return in Jan/Feb. I am not having any luck. Any tips?

Go at a different time! Seriously, that's peak travel time to/from India- all the folks with family still in India travel then. About the only option is to go a different time of year.

I was just able to book this similar fare directly on LH's site. LAX-FRA-BOM, departing Feb 6th, returning Mar 6th. Total cost $$830per person

the $807 in the headline is too high; can be had for about $750, even less if you fly jet airways bom-del on the outbound (on the return this segment actually raised the price)
the itin below would have been about 715, but had to use orbitz (with their hidden service charge) and propped it up to I think 734.
