Wonder if you can do NYC-PHL switch trains PHL-Harrisburg and those both count as a one way segment. Because normally even if booked together on the same reservation, it will give the minimum 100 points for each segment.

So if it counts the segments separately, theoretically you could do just one roundtrip from NYC and get two free tickets.

Don't miss this part of T&C: Minimum spend of $49 per one-way segment is required for travel to qualify

I also believe only two one-way segments per day can qualify as well. Of course, there is a very early morning train out of Washington...

Thanks for posting. I, too, only saw the Acela deal, but the four segments on the Regional is much more doable.

I believe that Amtrak has for a while now discounted NE Regional tickets by 25% if you buy with 14-day advance purchase. A NYP-WAS would meet that $49 minimum spend.

But no EQM.
Still OK as RDM but my only sources of UA miles were CC signups and churning Netflix.

Hoping a Feb booking would count as 2 one ways, ZFV to WAS RT in 1 day.

Guessing you can not count already booked ZFV fares thru EWR during that time period and have it count either.

I always get screwed circumventing points. I did a WIL-TRE and TRE-NYP booking on two separate conf codes and they only gave me credit for one. I had to call and fight for the other. I even got off the train and hung out in TRE for an hour so it didn't look like a contiguous trip.

PHL-HAR is only served by Keystone/Pennsylvanian, so it wouldn't count for the NE Regional promo. Also, NYP-PHL on Keystone/Pennsylvanian won't count either. I got screwed on that last year.

If I only take 1 round trip/2 one ways, will I earn 1 free one way? or do I have to take 2 round trips to be eligible?

You need to do the full promo. 2 RTs gets you 1 RT. Can be 4 one ways, 2 per day, over a certain $$ amount. Not sure on the restrictions on the free RT
