KS Suburbs - how far is far?

I have to be in Shawnee, KS next week. Will be by the intersection of Shawnee Mission Parkway and Rt. 7, and it looks like that puts me pretty close to not much at all.

The closest lodging is about 3 miles away, but I was hoping for something a little closer to the thick of things. How far is Overland Park from that area? It says about 7 miles, but coming from New England our definition of 7 miles and everyone else's are pretty different. Is this still a reasonable distance without having to spend 20 minutes on the road? If not, would it be better to head up to Village West, or just buck it up and deal with the close hotel?

It's a little misleading...the main post office for Overland Park is right off Shawnee Mission Parkway/Metcalf (which would be about 7 miles) and all that's there was a really old Holiday Inn. The Marriott etc is at 435 and Metcalf which is closer to a 20 minute haul from SMPky/KS 7

Better would probably be Lenexa (roughly at I-35/K-10/87th St) where there are some options and you're a little closer than far west on SM Parkway.

Overland Park is a big place which sprawls. That said, traffic moves...
