Chicago in December

Will be in downtown Chicago for a Friday and Saturday in December-- the reason is to sort of 'experience' Chicago around holiday time. Plan on visiting Macy's/Marshall Fields to see the decorations etc there, is there anything else to make sure to see/do this trip? Thanks in advance

The "Christmas Trees" display at the Museum of Science and Industry is pretty neat. Something like 50 huge trees decorated in the styles of various countries, by delegations from various ethnic communities. Also various choir/dance performances:

Also downtown is the Christkindlmarkt (German Christmas Market):

And walk up and down Michigan Ave. if it isn't too cold.

Thanks for all of those suggestions, very much appreciated!... I suspect that going in to the Museum could turn into an all day event lol

Has anyone been to the Winterfest (or whatever it is called) in Navy Pier? Not sure if that's geared more to a kids' event...

Forgot to say you should pick up copies of CHICAGO and TIMEOUT magazines when you arrive, and (if you see them), CHICAGO READER and NEWCITY giveaway newspapers for the latest listings of cultural activities. Also the Friday or Sunday CHICAGO TRIBUNE will have info.

And the website www.metromix.com
