Sonic coming to Chicago area
Sonic Corp., the drive-in restaurant chain known for carhops, chili-cheese coneys and a bevy of beverages, is coming to the Chicago area this summer, part of an effort to expand beyond its Sun Belt roots. Sonic announced Wednesday that four restaurants are slated to open near Chicago by the end of the year, the first two this summer in Country Club Hills and Aurora. Sonic outlets in Algonquin and Lockport are scheduled to open in the fall and winter, respectively. Within the next six years, the company expects to have 40 to 50 restaurants in the Chicago area, said Drew Ritger, Sonic's senior vice president of development. Sonic has at least 30 restaurants in Illinois, but the closest one to Chicago is in Peoria. Should we be excited? I've never tried them. |
LOOKS like they've got good milkshakes from the Cable TV adds!
It also looks like AM-PM Mini-Markets are coming to Chicago according to the ads. How do these compare to 7-11 and White Hen? Steve |

Sonic is dangerous to the waistline. Be prepared chicago! I tend to go during happy hour and get a route 44 soda for 1/2 price.

Hey, Country Club Hills is just a couple miles from me. Flyertalk party! |
Country Club Hills? Aurora? Algonquin? Lockport? I'd be much more excited if it were In 'N Out. :) |

The Chicago area, or "Chicagoland" used to be defined as the six-county area, but now it's considered the seven county area to include Kendall County. And that doesn't even include Kenosha and NW Indiana, which is why the Chevy commercials always talk about visiting "your Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana Chevy dealers." http://www.cmap.illinois.gov/about/overview.aspx |
One comment re Sonic: Cherry-Lime slush thing. Especially during happy hour. :p:p:p

Anyone have an opening date for the loc in Aurora? I think we should do a Do on opening day (I think someone's already suggested this somewhere).

According to Sonic, Aurora opens "late August." I'll email the lady again in early Aug and see if I can get an actual date.
