travel to DTW

I'm going to be flying to Detroit for the Oregon-Michigan football in September and I'm looking at tickets from PDX. Even though I'm a premier exec on United and a loyal flyer, they're $100 more expensive to DTW than AA and NWA leaving around the same times. My question is what airline would you rather fly a trans-con from PDX to DTW? Both participate in Alaska's mileage plan and that's causing me to be unsure on which airline I would like to fly. Also I haven't flown on AA since there more room throughout coach in 2003 and I know they took that away and I've never flown on NWA before. I would appreciate any feedback or suggestions

I can't make the comparison of airlines you want, but my first question would be isn't it kind of early to be buying a ticket for September? Prices could (and no doubt will) change many times in the next few months.

Alternative is AA with a connection or NW nonstop....plus if you fly NW you get the nice part of the airport....no brainer here. NW.

NW doesn't have a nonstop DTW-PDX. That is probably why OP is asking for a comparison.

I know its a bit early, but I'm going out there for the football game and there's going to be a lot of Oregon fans travelling out to that game, so I don't want to be stuck with a ridiculously priced ticket if I wait a couple more months.

Six months out is much too far in advance to buy tickets -- what you might want to do is look into flying into Flint (FNT) --- but the xway from there to Ann Arbor (US23) may (still) be under construction by the weekend of the game.

Another possiblity would be to start your trip at SEA.

In Ann Arbor, if you stay at the Holiday Inn North or Webers, you can get a shuttle bus to the game and not have to pay to park.

One other thought, if you have flexibility on your schedule, you might want to come out on say Thursday and go back Tuesday.

You also might want to try flying to Flint, Lansing, or Toledo on UA. They're not THAT much farther than DTW from Ann Arbor (Only 20-30 min). As an Ann Arbor resident, I use them all the time. You'll probably have to rent a car anyway.
