B6 (JetBlue) to fly from ORD

Ted (rar!) will soon have low-fare competition.

"The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approved the New York-based airline’s request, allowing JetBlue four daily departures from O’Hare.

"A JetBlue spokesman said the airline has not yet decided to what cities it will fly from O’Hare. The airline must start flights by next Jan. 27, according to an order from the FAA."

update: service starts 4 Jan to JFK and LGB. Fares uploaded today.

The airline needed FAA approval because the agency has capped flights at O’Hare during peak hours in an attempt to reduce congestion."

Hmmm, curious which cities they will fly to? I'll still fly UA and am hoping for some nice reductions in certain routes now that JetBlue is in town.

If they decided to fly ORD-JFK, I wouldn't count on much of an impact on fares. Based on a quick check of flights leaving today and returning tomorrow, UA, AA and CO all have walk-up coach fares at $213 each way in the NYC-CHI market, based on round-trip purchase.
